While doing my '24 Hybrid Maverick's first oil change, I noticed that my engine splash guard has an opening that looks like something should fit in it or close it. Does anyone have this closed up, or did a access panel or something fall off mine?

its been discussed before, the plastic piece that goes there only applies to AWD and if i remember correctly maybe 4K tow and/or FX4. There's previous treads about it if ya want to search around

Vents the turbo cooling fx4 awd. It’s a plastic vent.

Thanks for humoring me! Sorry about this being a repeated question...I actually searched before hand (apparently VERY poorly). I need better luck with tag word combos, or I'll try entering my whole thread into the search field first before I post it as new

On my 22 EB [pictured] I took it to the dealer for it's first oil change and it came back with the opening the OP questioned. I think the removal had something to do with a TSB that advised dealers to remove the cover to permit better cooling after some engine fires???

My 24 hybrid came from the factory with the opening. When I did my first oil change this past week at home, I looked and at least on a hybrid [fwd] the opening does not seem to be positioned to facilitate any service. I had to remove the entire cover, 15 T30 fasteners, to access the oil filter and drain plug.

On EcoBoosts it's there to cool the PTU. If it's a FWD the hole is there, but nothing in it (because no PTU). If it's AWD then a plastic diverter is installed.

As part of the fire recall Ford decided to implement cutting the same hole and on production going forwards hybrids just use the same EcoBoost shield. Although there was someone who ordered a new production replacement shield and it didn't have the large opening, but did have the other recall holes.
