Hey everyone,

new Mav owner and first time posting. 2024 2.0 EcoBoost AWD Lariat. ~300 miles. Just wanted to complain about the horrible transmission programming that seems to make this engine lug and vibrate at small throttle inputs. Feels EXACTLY like driving a manual car when you forget to downshift and lug the engine. I have this horrible sensation to downshift but obviously I cannot. This causes vibrations you can feel/hear until you give it more gas or change speeds.

I’ve read similar threads, and I’ll probably get the dealer to look at it but I know they won’t actually do anything. Anyone else notice this problem on their Maverick? Tow mode or sports mode seems to fix the issue but I shouldn’t have to switch from Normal mode every time I get into the car! Not to mention those modes are a bit overly aggressive.

otherwise it’s a great rig, and I hope there is a fix without going aftermarket (warranty).

Maybe a reset of the trans adaptive learning and some more miles might help. There is also aftermarket COBB tuning available that reportedly adjusts the shifts points that should help.

Cobb is great, I’m coming from the Subaru world so I’m very familiar with the accessport. Only problem is, I don’t want any issues with voiding my warranty this early in my ownership.

What grade of fuel are you running? If you're using regular, I'm wondering if premium might help. I'll take delivery of my '24 Lariat eco on Monday (3/19), and I'm planning to use 95 octane. Since I'll only drive it about 3K - 4K miles/year, mostly in town, the extra fuel cost will be insignificant (to me).

Welcome to the 2L Ecoboost club. Depending on the axle ratio, we do get some body boom in high gear and engine rpms less then 1500 rpms. The Engine calibrator got the vehicle in high gear as quickly as possible to give us the best Fuel Economy. He or she should probabley have picked 1600 RPM for top gear. Just think of it as the sound and feel of fuel economy. If you can't live with it, you will need a tuner as others have mentioned.

while it's entirely possible you have a transmission problem there is also the possibility that it's still learning your driving style as you learn it's.
300 miles in is a bit early to worry about it's reluctance to down shift seeing as it does so in tow/sport.
the flip side to this is an aggravating overly eager down or up shift that folks call hunting.

So weird. I had and still have exactly the opposite reaction to my ecoboost. I run it in normal mode, and it's way too fast to shift and keep higher revs. I miss my standard transmission, where I would keep revolutions way down all the time.

Hi Mike! I can look into your Maverick's vibration concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Maverick's VIN?

Oh I totally see why they did it but I do also wish they chose Rpms higher than 1100-1200. Maybe it’s because I’m coming from Manual cars, it’s possible I could just get used to it. It just feels so weird and wrong, almost kind of embarrassing for passengers haha.

Haha we need to swap transmissions then!

Same here.
Some always drive in sport or do the paddle shifter mod.

Same for me, truck likes to lug around on lower rpms on the county roads and city which makes it bog down with some vibration. I can actually see the gas mileage go down because of it on the gauge. Definitely worse with the 235s on now.

I’ve been driving in tow/haul mode the last few days and it feels like normal
Should. I’ll have to do some experimenting to see how much this effects fuel economy.
It’s possible I will just chose this mode every time I drive. Does anyone know if this would have any negative effects long-term?

Yea I noticed that as well. It’s very apparent with outside temps below about 38F so it’s directly related to air density. Below 38F or so and city-driving I just switch to tow/haul mode. Yea it’s annoying but it is what it is.

The magic speed when driving slow is 35-37 in normal mode. It will never upshift in that range. My daily commute sees lots of 30 mph or so and in cold temps I just 2 clicks on mode button for tow/haul and complete the trip in that mode.

glad I’m not going crazy, maybe in the summer time it won’t be so bad. I’ve been using tow mode for the last few days and I do believe that is the answer. Sort of annoying but you’re right, it’s just 2 button presses I can’t be that upset haha.
