I have a 2022 Ford Maverick hybrid XL
It was giving me the code p0402 and that would come on and off as it pleases

I looked around here on the forum and found somebody that posted a bulletin and in that bulletin it said for that code I needed to replace a certain sensor

I replaced part# JT4Z-9J460-A and that kept the code away for about a week

The same code came back p0402 so I decided to replace another part that I saw somebody on here replaced saying it helped which is part# K2GZ-9J433-C

I replaced that part and then drove up north to go camping for the weekend however on my way up my check engine light came on and the Ford app gave me the following information:

"The emission control system has detected the exhaust gas recirculation pressure sensor signal is not as expected when the vehicle is at idle."

I really don't want to take it to the dealership because I am nervous about being charged expensive fees but I do not know where to go next
I don't have my scanner on me so I cannot see which code is being displayed but when I would get the code p0402 the Ford app would not give me such a detailed description of the issue so I am assuming it is a different code

I am scheduling an appointment to go to the dealership for late next week with the hopes of canceling it if someone on here can give me advice on what to do next

Since there is wiring to the sensors involved - sensors may be good, wiring bad.

Is it a long run to sensor location, and part of a bundle, or remote enough just a few wires at that point?
Though, even a bundle will have wires on the outside that can be scraped before the others.

Got rodents with access to truck?

They could be joy-riding!

No rodents that I know of!
But it's just a couple wires into the sensors that are part of big bundles of other wires.

I think it will be covered by the Emission warranty, but I dislike playing the money game with the dealership.

NO Clue, but according to googles AI 🤷‍♂️

AI Overview

An "emission control system has detected the exhaust gas recirculation pressure sensor signal is not as expected when the vehicle is at idle" indicates a problem with the EGR system that requires professional diagnosis, as the signal from the pressure sensor, which monitors flow within the EGR system, is outside the expected range for an idle engine. Common causes include a faulty EGR valve due to carbon buildup, a faulty EGR pressure sensor, issues with the sensor's wiring or connectors, or problems with the EGR flow path.

Why this is a problem

Reduced fuel efficiency: and engine performance
  • Increased emissions
  • Engine knocking or overheating
  • Potential to fail an emissions test
Steps for diagnosis and repair
  1. 1. Check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):
    .
Use a scan tool to retrieve specific codes, like P0401 (insufficient flow) or related codes, to guide the diagnosis.

  2. 2. Inspect the EGR Valve:
    .
Look for signs of carbon buildup or damage, which can prevent the valve from functioning correctly, notes CarParts.com.

  3. 3. Examine the EGR Pressure Sensor and Wiring:
    .
Inspect the sensor and its connectors for corrosion, damage, or poor connections.

  4. 4. Check the EGR Flow Path:
    .
Ensure that there are no blockages or restrictions in the passages that allow exhaust gas to flow through the system.

  5. 5. Test the Sensor:
    .
Use a scan tool to monitor the sensor readings in real-time at idle to verify its function.

  6. 6. Address Wiring and Connectors:
    .
Repair any damaged wiring or corroded connectors associated with the EGR system.

  7. 7. Consider Software Updates:
    .
On some vehicles, a software update from the manufacturer might be necessary to correct the issue.

Good call. My RR ABS sensor wire chafed through where the corrugated sleeve ended, a sharp edge was left during manufacturing. The harness was firmly located on the vehicle frame, on either side of the break, so not a lot of movement, but it still wore through. I fear this type of issue will be common.

Cheers.

Throwing parts at an egr code is wasting money.
There are too many things that can cause issues, not just the hard parts . Good luck.

Take it to the dealer for the fix. Its not a Ford 8N. They train their technicians for problems like these, and have the correct equipment to do it right. The days of saving a few bucks by doing fixes like this yourself went away about 30 years ago when the computers started compensating for cracked rings and fuel injector plugging issues.

I have same problem. But I'm not experiencing any symptoms so I'm assuming it's a software update.
