a wise move--cadillac is currently dealing with litigation over it. Without permission, GM sold acceleration and other data to brokers, and folks got hit with stiff insurance hikes (as if anyone would buy a Cadillac V to drive mildly . . .)
They didn't sell mine to Progressive as far as I know.
I didn't realize what poor driver I am in my Bolt till I looked thru what GM sent to Lexis-Nexus.
GM lost access to my Bolt shortly after this:

-1 means “no data.” Compare that to 0 which means there is data and no recorded event for that category.

Your Mav may very well have an aftermarket tracker installed in it.
Mine did. But it doesn’t anymore.
A month after buying my Mav, I turned a corner a little faster than usual and something hit me on the left foot. When I looked down, there was a GPS unit about the size of an iphone, hanging from my OBD2 port. I unhooked it. It was poorly taped above the port. I looked the company up and it seems that they work a deal with the dealership and install them for almost nothing. It allows the dealership to do an easy inventory of units on their lot. Ideally, the vehicle buyer will continue the service by paying a monthly fee to help with theft recovery. I did not subscribe. The company’s name is Spireon. They bought out LoJack.

I tossed mine in the trash. I suggest you do the same if you are planning to run “product” back from Mexico, my friend.

Wouldn't an Apple Airtag work out better ?

This topic is confusing to a lot of people. So I’ll try to add some clarity. If my understanding on this is wrong, feel free to chime in.

Lexus Nexus is not an insurance company, it is a data brokerage. They buy driving telemetry data from all of the auto manufacturers that have gps trackers in their car and then they sell the data to the insurance companies. If you agree to “data sharing with auto insurance companies”, that data goes to Lexus Nexus with your VIN attached to it, which can raise your insurance rates based on your driving habits.

If you decline data sharing with insurance companies, your data gets anonymized and the data STILL gets sold to Lexus Nexus, which then gets sold to insurance companies.

The difference is (hypothetically) that your insurance company sees the driving habits of all Maverick drivers, but not you specifically.
