I have No Clue, but based on a google search listed below, appears a ford dealer will need to be involved 🤷‍♂️

AI Overview

Programming or replacing an Engine Control Module (ECM/PCM) on a 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid requires specialized software and hardware, as it is a modern vehicle with a high-voltage system.
The official method used by Ford is the Ford Diagnostic and Repair System (FDRS), which allows for Module Programming and Programmable Module Installation (PMI).

Essential Tools and Requirements
  • Laptop: Windows 8 or later with internet access.
  • VCI Device: A J2534-compatible passthru device (e.g., VXDIAG VCX Nano for Ford, Mongoose Plus).
  • Software: Ford FDRS software (downloadable from Motorcraft Service).
  • Subscription: 2-day FDRS license (approx. $50).
  • Power Supply: A dedicated battery charger/power supply to maintain over 12V (essential).

Step-by-Step Programming Procedure (PMI)
If replacing the ECM, the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) process is used to transfer data from the old unit to the new one.
  1. Preparation: Connect the VCI to the Maverick's OBDII port and the laptop. Turn the vehicle to Accessory Mode (key on, engine off).
  2. Launch FDRS: Open the FDRS application and ensure the VIN is recognized.
  3. Initiate PMI: Navigate to the Toolbox tab and select "Programmable Module Installation" (PMI) > "PCM".
  4. Extract Data: The software will guide you through reading the configuration data from the old ECM (if it is still communicating).
  5. Replace Module: Turn the ignition off, replace the PCM hardware, then turn back to Accessory Mode.
  6. Load Data: Select "Write" in the software to transfer the saved data to the new ECM.
  7. Complete Setup: Follow prompts to complete the installation. The software will automatically perform a "Parameter Reset" to synchronize the new ECM with the security system.
  8. Clear Codes: Clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and perform a test drive.

Important Notes for 2023 Maverick Hybrid
  • Software Update (P2282): Some 2023 Maverick Hybrids (built Apr 11 – Aug 23, 2023) required a specific PCM update due to a potential air leak issue.
  • If Old Module is Dead: If you cannot read the old PCM, you must perform a manual installation, which requires inputting the vehicle's As-Built data from the Motorcraft website.
  • BMS Reset: After changing the module, it is recommended to reset the Battery Management System (BMS).
Disclaimer: Improperly programming an ECM can cause severe vehicle damage. It is highly recommended to have this procedure performed by a qualified Ford technician or experienced shop.

Pretty much only FDRS will do it.
The major modules are encrypted & must be reset using the trusted module reset procedure "TRON"
I'm not aware of any other equipment capable of it

How did you get into an accident and have to buy ur own ECM? I mean insurance would cover that especially since that whole panel and wheel and such would have to be replaced. If it’s the one in the wheel well.

Might have a difficult time getting a dealer to want to do the work with a used part that may or not be good. But then it might not be hard seeing how they will be charging their outrageous hourly rates, be prepared to be “bent over” with the final bill….
