Dealer replaced both on mine at 52k. Groaning at low speed when the wheel was about one turn to the right. Vibration on acceleration at about 30 mph. Issue was with the right one but they replaced both.

Thanks. This past week, they replaced both half shafts no charge on my Maverick, even though I had 42K miles. Now my question is: has anyone been told definitively what the problem was? Defective components, a manufacturing issue, some of both? My service rep was no help with an answer. If it's defective components and Ford is not replacing these parts with better quality ones, will this just happen again 35K miles down the road?
You did get updated ones - your OEM ones aren't used anymore for replacements.
Get your work order out for the part numbers.
Any of the Similar threads below with recent update (except Tremor which has it's own) will give the numbers.

Many posters seem to think a design issue on the part - since even that recall notes a start date for the 22's that is after they actually started building them. Ran out? Went cheap?
And the replacements are beefier.

But nothing like a quality issue of getting a boot and band on squarely and tight to stop water from running in! That can effect the best built CV joint.

Thanks for the info, Mike!
