You have to push from the inside. It's definitely a PITA. See that clip in the picture? Use a plastic pry tool and push on that then try pushing on the rest of the housing with a screwdriver from behind until it pops out. Took me a while to get it and if you can have someone on the outside slide a plastic pry tool in while you wiggle it as you depress the clip, it will pop right out. That'll also help keep it pried outwards because I believe there is a small latch on the other side.

So, clip depressed, pull outwards in the opposite direction of the clip side.

This is actually the 4th vehicle I've owned that has the type of setup. I don't understand why it's so common vs. just having a damn bulb to replace instead. But, if you think this is bad, wait until you see the cost of replacing LED headlights. Also insane. Especially considering many of them use DRLs and you can't change ANY bulbs inside, even turn signals. My Tacoma was that way. Just another way for them to charge more for their parts.
Yeah I got the 10 yr / 100k coverage and added the headlights for $70. I read they were $1300. Each. And have to replaced it its entirety. This is the opposite of "sustainable".

The truck was cheap, keeping it running might be expensive.

Since it’s already broken, why not just “break it out”?
ie; Hit it with a hammer, or something like that
