Do software updates download / install automatically?

So this is my first new vehicle in long time. When a software update is out for our trucks does it happen automatically or say like apple products you need to install. Or does it happen at dealer?

Both methods can be done but it’s really easy to do it yourself. Just scan for updates and for odd reason , I have to scan it two times before the download sets in. The software installed automatically after you download and you’ll see the change after you turn off the vehicle and restart the ignition.. Another oddity is that I have a year subscription for my hotspot but the download will not work unless I used my home Wi-Fi !!

D for depends. If you have enabled Ford pass and park your truck hooked up close to your wifi network some simple radio updates can go automatically. Computer updates will require in person at dealer. Personally, I keep my truck communications turned off…no ford pass. I have never needed on my Ford cars. If it was delivered working fine, then I am good to go. If a genuine recall/safety issue arises I will have dealer update. If you read thru the painful number of posts to this forum about over the air do it yourself stereo Nav updates people are doing themselves and it doesn’t work…well… you make the call on how frustrated you wanna be.

I like the hotspot for this maverick, I opted in for the unlimited for $20/m my devices connect auto when ever I start the truck. Haven’t real watch YouTube or streaming yet but looking forward to the speeds

I did an update yesterday on wifi. Took about an hour and kept the truck on. Nice thing having a hybrid the ice didn't turn on so no gas wasted!

Maverick XLT here. I've never seen the infotainment system automatically update, despite having it enabled and a wireless AP in the garage.

If you manually press check for update, it will eventually download one after a few tries, depending on the moon (joke), ISP, internet stability, etc.
