Hello,

When spraying the windshield wiper fluid, the wiper wipes automatically. Does anyone know how to disable this where I can use them independently?

Thanks

I believe that setting in the IPC (courtesy wipe) only enables/disables the extra (courtesy) wipe, not the wipe during spray.

I can't remember if I ever owned a car that would not turn the wipers on automatically when you used washer fluid. There might be... But I can't remember. Oldest car I have ever driven was when I was 16 I used my dad's 1972 Oldsmobile.

What's the reason for wanting to do this?
I asked remote tech about spray no wipe and he suggested a button (maybe in the little dash cubby?) to spray on push. I want to soak the bugs and dirt for awhile before wiping it off. That way I won't have to lay a wet towel on windshield. Was interesting that he laughed when I asked. Then he apologized for laughing and said he had just finished replacing a wiper motor which would not immediately start wiping after the windshield was sprayed but would after two or three seconds.

I'm glad that others think of these things, I felt that I'm the only one! Every car should have that feature, even if only when the transmission is in Park.

Soaking the windshield with tje washers is very very very handy at gas stations that don't keep squeeges with water. On road trips in the summer I carry a nonscratch scrub sponge to rid glass from the masses of bugs. Gas stations often don't have squeeges. A scrubbing, then run the wash and wipers and done.

On some cars, not a Mav, you can lift the wipers to the up and hold position, then run the washers to soak the bugs while the wipers dance but leave the window wet. But on the Mav the raised wipers hit the hood. So, a small bottle of wiper fluid joins the sponge kept under the back seat...no big deal and I still love my Mav without a soaking feature.

:). I knew someone will, sounds like a dumb thing to ask.

In winter after work when your windshield is full of ice and when you filled your windshield reservior with fluid with de-icer additive, you wanna make use of it. Mavericks have good spray that covers entire glass with fluid, you spray to let the de-icer do its work for a few minutes then you get out and scrape the ice. The de-icer helps a lot of breaking the ice enough to make it easy to scrape and save time. Wiping the windshield full of ice instantly destroy the wipers. So with auto the wiper, it wipes and destroy itself then removes the de-icer.

I had a 1995 acura where wipe and spray was independent but the spray was a stream that didnt help with distributing the fluid much. Back then I've always wanted a spray like the maverick to help de-ice quicker. I had the car for 15 winter seasons and not having auto wipe was great for winter.

Some auto features are great some are not. Im sure a normal human will wipe when the vision has been obscured. Only an idiot would not wipe because he didnt have auto wipe.

How would you wire the button without letting the software know you didnt spray?

He suggested that I run additional hot to + on water pump. Do not know if just running pump without activating wiper/spray arm would trigger anything. Guess just have to try?

Okay that makes some sort of sense. Why don't you just remote start the Truck with the defroster on for 5 minutes?

5 minutes? That won't get rid of the ice, there will be lots of ice left and will still destroy the wipers if you use them. Upcoming winter will be my first with remote start, but from past experience maybe you need more like 10-15 minutes which then ice will separate from the windshield pretty well so you still have to get out and remove the partially melted ice with a brush or so. Front defrost doesn't work well at melting the ice like the rear does because it's more distributed back there plus it's conduction heat while the front is just conventional air flow.
