I know this is not closely related to the original post but for what it is worth:

Why does SiriusXM stop streaming after a while?

We do this to avoid streaming to computers or mobile devices that have no listeners — and so that all listeners can enjoy optimum performance and quality. We send a popup notice every 90 minutes to see if you’re still listening. If you see this message, just click Keep Listening and audio will resume. If you don’t click through, the player will shut down within 5 minutes of the alert.

Getting the same issue, 2023 XLT and I would be miles from my house already and bluetooth would randomly disconnect. Sometimes as mentioned, it can reconnect effortlessly, but other times I find myself pulling over, turning off the truck and turning it back on to kinda "hard reset" it and it works again.
Good morning. Could you privately message us with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer so I can look into this bluetooth concern? Thanks!

My vehicle has a hard time as well with the cable connection. Even plugged in, it will just sit there plugged in without CarPlay coming up. Happens probably every fifth time I plug in. I unplug, try again, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. The stereo/phone connection is the worst part of my Maverick experience. It’s flat out terrible. My cable is a factory supplied apple usb-c that came with my phone.

My cable is working perfect no issues. The Bluetooth works good but has its moments and just quits but it works more than quits

Ok all, I "bit the Bullitt" and bought a wireless dongle. So far it has been pretty good. I finally realized I need to unlock the phone first, for it to start the app. The only issue so far is my mount for the phone blocks the left side of the screen.

Can you change the layout on the CarPlay screen. I have looked every where but I could not find it.

Ford did try to call me but I thought it was a spam call for my school loans etc... :) I will call them back when I get some free time.

The wireless dongle I bought was https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BWYKJJ53?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details I had some credit card points. So I thought what the heck.

Stop blaming the phone, this is a known issue and the last update DID help somewhat. Ford…pay attention.

I believe phones do this because they are trying to minimize cellular network data usage whenever wifi is found.

If you have unlimited data, the carrier wants wifi used more. If you don't have unlimited, you want wifi used more. Therefore the phone is programmed to prefer wifi.

A modern smartphone definitely has the processing power to load-balance wifi and cellular internet connections, but it is easy to imagine how this would increase battery usage and could increase cellular data usage. If we didn't care about those 2 possible issues, actively load-balancing wifi and cellular would definitely make the internet connection resilient and possibly increase performance.

So, despite assertions that 'millions of millions' don't work this way, I believe exactly the opposite is true. Smartphones do work this way. They are intentionally slow to handoff internet connectivity from wifi to cellular. If a person thinks otherwise, perhaps their apps are unaffected by loss of internet connectivity (such as caching or just not constantly needing internet), or a person is just not using it in a way that this problem would be obvious to them.
I went into phone settings and selected cellular data preferred over wifi. Selects wifi at home due to weak cellular signal. May not work for others

I have a 2023 Lariat with Sync3 and I use Bluetooth all the time and Apple CarPlay for GPS. But recently began to use the onboard GPS on the Sync3 with no problems. I have not had any issues with drop calls, lag in music nor any hiccups with streaming. I also, have my Sync3 connected to wifi when at home. As for departing away from my home (while the vehicle is connected to WiFi) there has been no lag or any pauses with the music. The only thing that I have noticed (for many years of using SiriusXM) is that, if the vehicle is in a garage, under any kind of coverage over the vehicle, the signal from the satellite is disturbed. Until the vehicle is free from obstruction, then the music will resume. As for Bluetooth, I have not had any connectivity issues with either 3 phones saved to my Sync3. I Did make a very minor mod to my Mav by switching out the long antenna to a much smaller one that was a gift from my nephew. Also a tempered screen protector on my radio screen. Been running for a new days now, again, no issues with SiriusXM, HD radio or any other frequencies.
Now maybe in 2023, these issues that everyone have been experiencing have been fixed or maybe I have been using my system differently. I only have 3 phone saved to my Sync3 (all iPhones). Work, personal and wife’s phone. My personal is the only one that is saved as “favorite”. I only use ORIGINAL Apple branded cables. So maybe there’s something here.
I’m really staring to believe that the issue is with the systems that are in the XL and XLT.
Hope this helps. I can do more test if needed.

FWIW----I have a lariat & an XLT LUX. The wife uses blue tooth in lariat never been used in XLT. I don't use Bluetooth or even radio when I drive. But I have noticed that the drive mode selection button in the lariat operates with a much faster response time when pushed than the XLT does. The cpu in the lariat is apparently faster????

Not trying to be combative or anything here, but while it *should* be seamless, in practice it doesn't always work out that way. My own phone frequently has little pauses when switching, especially when the switch is predicated on a *loss* of wifi signal rather than manual disconnection. I think issues pop up when you are trying to switch simply by leaving the effective range of the WiFi, as the signal isn't a binary on/off, but it degrades until the phone finally recognizes the signal is completely gone. I get what you are saying, though.

As far as OPs problem, I have always found bluetooth to be too finnicky, so I just opt for using a physical cable in the car.
I think in your case, it is clearly operator error.
