Hybrids on the lot are still rare, but available. Most dealers around me have at least a few Mavs on the lot and the window stickers are mostly blue, so they were stock orders. Some are sitting for 60 days or more, particularly the $35k+ models.

Are used prices still holding up? I see most are advertised for essentially the same price as new, though they don't seem to be selling super quickly.

So order banks are still open? I wonder how long the wait is now. I waited 18 months for an eco.

Sitting at same dealership this morning, Wickstrom in Barrington IL. They have 20 Mavericks on the lot. Obviously that supply/demand thing has changed. Interestingly, only 1 is hybrid.

I suspect zero are XL. Still a waiting list for the frugal.

If you look at the sales history of the previous generation Ranger, you'll see the Maverick is nothing special. That old Ranger sold 300,000 plus many years. The only thing that makes the Maverick "special" is that Ford badly miscalculated demand and underinvested in initial production.

Ford cancelled Ranger in 2011 when sales were over around 72,000. How many units will Maverick sell in 2024?

Given that the order book never closed for the current model year, it's pretty reasonable to say that production is slowly catching up with demand (at least Ecoboost).

Is the Maverick popular with a certain cost-sensitive crowd (that would be you and me)? Sure. But so far it hasn't even dethroned the old Ranger. Count me in the dubious crowd that it ever will. I wager 150,000 a year will be tops for the Maverick. Partly because Ford doesn't want to invest in a new plant. Partly because the initial demand will falter. And eventually because competitors will start nibbling away at that sales pie (success breeds competition).

Ford is not going to build a new plant for the Maverick, but they definitely could retool the plants currently making the Edge and Escape. They are unibody.

Until they start making Mavericks at an additional factory, Scott's 'wager' is really just stating the obvious. If Hermasilo can make a max if 300,000 to 350,000 vehicles per year, and it's producing the Bronco Sport and Maverick, then obviously the Maverick cannot sell 300,000 units per year to match or exceed the Ranger's high watermark.

You're right there is an XL in the batch. Green window sticker = customer order, so someone changed their mind after months of waiting or just got tired of waiting and bought something else.
