Went today looking to buy a used truck from a dealership and sat down to talk numbers.

Dealership had a line item on the deal sheet for $5995 for undercoating and protection.

After I saw that, I am not sure I heard any other words from the salesperson while we got up and left. He may have been talking, but nothing was registering.

It is what it is, I suggest just finding a dealer to order one. Wait times for Ecoboost models seem pretty short at this point. Apparently there are people out there still willing to pay the dealer add on fees so they don't have to wait which means dealers really aren't willing to budge on the markups, yet.

Negotiate my friend, negotiate.

(but yes, that price is laughable for sure. Would've been fun to hear them try to explain it.)

I got up and walked out of a Toyota dealer on a used Tacoma when they wanted more for it than a new one. They had their price, I had mine and that was the end of the story.

They had every right in the world to ask 38.5K for a two year old Tacoma SR5. I had every right in the world to tell them to keep it and walk out.

The '23 XLT I traded-in in December is still sitting on the lot, they must be comfortable with holding the inventory.

I've walked out of two dealers because they added $1K to the advertised price for not having a trade-in they wanted to keep. In one case, the trade was a 2011 Fusion SEL with 100K miles and the other was no trade-in at all. Two other dealers got our business instead.

Name and shame.

Walked out of a Toyota dealership when we were $4000 apart on a new Camry a few years ago. They called a week later and said they had "found a way" to cut $4000 of the price. When we bought our RAV4 from the same dealership, it was all done over the internet. I asked about one in their inventory, they gave me a price with and without the Camry as a trade in. I countered with a lower price trading in the Camry. They sent me an offer, I printed it out and went for a test ride. I put the print out on the salesman's desk, along with a check for that amount. Took a half hour on the computer and another half hour in the office.
I walked out of a Ford dealership in September of 2022 because they wanted a $500 deposit to order a Maverick. The Ford dealer was only 18 miles away. The next day, I ordered the same truck from a dealer 40 miles away with a promise of no markups and no deposit. They kept their word. When the Maverick came in, the salesman drove it to my house.
Dealers can be stubborn, but YOU have the MONEY. They all mellow when they see green walking towards the door.
