I wanted to share a data point with the community in case anyone else runs into this issue.
I have a 2023 Lariat Hybrid Maverick with 31k miles. Aside from a couple of persistent dash and rear-seat rattles that the dealer hasn’t been able to fix, I really like the truck. However, it’s been acting up over the past month.
About a month ago, I got a Check Engine light. My son, who owns the exact same truck, suggested turning the vehicle off and waiting about 5 minutes before restarting. He was right—that cleared it.
Fast forward to yesterday: while driving, a bright red full-screen warning popped up on my dash telling me to pull over safely immediately. (I wish I had snapped a photo!) I pulled over, turned the truck off, and restarted it every few minutes for about 5 minutes, but the warning came back every time. I called the dealer, and they recommended having it towed in to be checked. (Side note: I learned you can schedule a roadside tow directly through the FordPass app, which was super convenient.)
The Diagnosis: The dealer found that my 12V battery was low/failing, which triggered the emergency warning.
I was surprised that a low 12V battery would tell me to pull over immediately while driving, but looking back, the signs were there. FordPass had already been sending me notifications that remote features/deep sleep modes were being deactivated to preserve battery power after parking.
Hope this helps someone else! If you start getting strange warnings or Check Engine lights—and FordPass is already warning you about low 12V battery features—have your 12V battery tested or replaced.
