If anyone remembers VW getting b!tch-slapped by the PTB back in 2015 because their diesel affordable vehicles were too efficient...this article suggest Toyota could be next.
Could Ford hybrid vehicles be in any danger of this happening? A speculative article here but thought-provoking to be sure.

Not sure where you're getting your "news", but VW got slapped because they were putting illegal software into their diesel cars to generate less emissions when the car was being tested and then switch to more emissions (but higher mpg) the rest of the time.

I'm sure someone else has pointed his head already, but VW got in trouble because they're illegal. Software was allowing their diesel vehicles to pollute many, many, many times more than legally allowed. I say this is somebody who owns a VW so I'm not biased against them.

Let's just consider the question in the thread title rather than debate the merits of any particular blog, news source, etc. Topics like this almost always get closed eventually due to politics, but until that happens, enjoy the discussion.

EV adoption targets, which are extremely aggressive in the EU and a few other places such as California, do not distinguish between gas hybrid vehicles and full gas. I'll paste in some snippets for easy reference.

EU:
From 2025 onwards, Regulation (EU) 2019/631 sets stricter EU-wide CO2 fleet targets: a 15% reduction by 2025 for both cars and vans and, from 2030, a 50% reduction target for vans and a 55% reduction target for cars, all relative to a 2021 baseline.

California:
Advanced Clean Cars I was adopted in 2012 and Advanced Clean Cars II was adopted in 2022. As part of the Advanced Clean Cars II regulations, all new passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs sold in California will be zero-emission vehicles by 2035.

Some time before these laws come in force, legislatures will likely realize this is not achievable. If they don't protests and votes will eventually force the issue. If the laws are changed I would expect them to just slide out the adoption dates rather than remove them.

Mandates will change over time . Not worried at all, If manufacturers cant sell them they wont be built. I cant wait till they go after the boating industry, That will be amusing,.

I've never seen a Tesla ugly truck, anywhere, even the Tesla surveyor showed up in a Ford Transit Van, I did see a Tesla with a hitch but he said it was for the bike rack.

I'm noticing a bunch of California tags (License plates) in Florida lately, guessing they like the weather and you get a weeks notice about a hurricane to prepare. Not being political, they could be attempting to recreate the Pacific Northwest.

Yeah Bitch slapped with spending some billion and half to build electrify America as their penalty for making passats go fast AND still get 44 mpg on diesel.
Electrify America will eventually work out their uptime kinks and become a nice profitable countrywide charging network for VW.
lol
nice punishment.
