Well two weeks ago my dealer replaced the right front axle under warranty on my 2022 hybrid, but a clunking still remains when turning hard left. Back at the dealership they now say I need my right lower control arm replaced for $1,250. I ask if they can just replace the bushings and I am told it comes as a unit, bushings are not sold separately. I do a search and the send them the lower control arm bushing part number of LX6Z-3069-B. After a phone call reminding them that the front end was torn partially apart during the axle replacement and the issue should have been caught then, they reduced the labor from 4 hours to 1.25 bringing the new estimate to $736, but that is with a new control arm. Waiting for new estimate with just the bushings.

How can they not know you can replace bushings in a control arm?
Could the axle issue have put strain on the lower control arm causing premature wear?

Sure, that just replaces the rear bushing of the control arm while the front is integrated into the assembly. It's only a $25 part, but it's fairly sound reasoning that it's not worth the labor time of pressing in/out just one bushing as point of potential failure when for $2-300 for the control arm you can just install it out of the box and have a new front bushing and ball joint as well.

How many miles on your Maverick???
a better question is how many miles was it driven with a bad CV joint? that's what thrashed the bushings.

Currently 3 weeks wait for axles-

I guess some people leave their truck at the dealership while waiting?

I kept driving and put about 2500 miles on mine, after I first noticed a slight vibration...

Hope my bushings aren't shot?

it's the intensity of the vibration along with duration. when this first started happening, owners may not have noticed or known what to look out for, and dealerships may not have seen the issue repeatedly so I think it was not unusual for some people to have the issue go on a long time before it was repaired. hell, one guy was recently (incorrectly) told CV axles weren't covered under the powertrain warranty.

now that many people know about it, hopefully no one would go more than a few thousand miles with the issue, but I did see some folks talk about feeling and hearing noises, dealerships said no fault found and then 10,000+ miles later after it significantly worsened finally it was repaired. THAT is the kind of time I'd worry about bushings and ask the dealership to make sure they're ok when performing the axle replacement.

but anyway, if you get it repaired relatively quickly with minor vibration, your bushings should be fine. sometimes you can check for severely worn bushings by hand, just pushing and pulling on the wheel (if it's in the air), hub, control arm, steering rods.

Do you not have an extended warranty?

Guys,
I paid $2,000 for an extended full warranty that goes to 100,000 miles.
That is cheap Insurance considering the complexity and cost of repairs.
At 100,000 I can purchase another 50,000 if I like.
I hope I never need to use it.

I can still detect a vibration after getting new axles installed.

It's only at higher speeds, and not during acceleration.

Tires are getting old, might also be worn control arm bushings???

I'm out of 3/36k warranty, so will be changing control arms myself when needed.
Thankfully, we've already got some decent aftermarket parts options...
