For months my wife has complained of a non-stop high pitched sound inside my truck, much like a dog whistle. I've never heard it until one day a month ago, and it was incredibly annoying. While she seems to hear it every time she's with me, it was only yesterday that I heard it again, for the full duration of my drive. The obvious guess was the stereo. Turning it off made no difference. AC off, no difference. Turned the engine off, no difference. Opened the door to kill the whole system and removed the key, and it's still there. It eventually stopped several minutes later after sitting in the driveway.
Because of the pitch, it's nearly impossible to pinpoint the location. Opening the hood, it can't be heard at all. As best I can tell, it's most likely coming from somewhere near the drivers side dashboard.
Any clues what. this could be?

What electronic components stay on for a while after the truck is shut off? If I knew that much, I could eliminate a lot of things...

Just trying to track down where you could be getting some coil whine from since it sounds like its tied to the accessories power. I'm assuming it still makes the sound when the cable isn't plugged in?

Does your build have the 12 v inverter? If it does it could be that

Whining sounds that your wife hears all the time, you only sometimes, all electronics and engines sounds ruled out… so my guess is it’s the wife, you only hear her when you consciously are listening to her. Problem solved, next patient. lol… sorry I can’t resist obvious straight man set up’s

I have pretty good hearing. I can discern a number of sounds coming from the speaker like I’d say all the hybrids have. These are all variable pitch or tone and get louder or softer depending on speed etc. These sounds are programmed and entirely artificial.

There is a different tone however. This one sounds like it’s coming from somewhere close to the driver side firewall and it’s a constant tone level /pitch but It’s not always there. It’s subtle. It sounds like one of those tones in the hearing test we got in grade school. I have yet to be able to recreate the exact situation that accompanies it but it’s a real thing.

I should have opted for the oscilloscope package but it wasn’t available with the XL trim. Maybe I’ll temporarily disconnect that hybrid speaker to see if it’s from garbage code rather than the engine control module.

Nah the Maverick is to cheap for them to be using engine noise generators through the inside speakers. The noises you hear in the hybrid are the electric motors and regen brakes. The only noise the system in the hybrid makes from the exterior speakers is at low speeds (under 40MPH) and while in reverse.

Since the OP has an EB, that's non-issue.

It’s somewhere in the dash. The truck is a 2.0 XLT. The tone never changes in pitch, or volume, less twice when it was far louder, though even then it held the same pitch and volume for the duration of the drives…

Sounds like a bad capacitor somewhere in the dash to me.
