I'm a fan of Console Vault safes, so I decided to spend my Ford Pass points on the underseat rear safe. My truck is going in for a warranty repair, so I asked what they'd charge to install the rear safe. On the Ford website there's an option to add the install for $60. The dealer wants over $180! They said the Ford website is wrong. Bear in mind that this safe just drops in and installs with 3 screws.

I used all of my 42,000 Pass points and paid $265.22 to Ford for my rear safe.
I would have paid $475.22 without the Pass points, so my 42,000 points were worth $210.

Console Vault's front safe looks a bit fussier to install, so I'm guessing the dealer would want even more than $180, even though the website says $60 for it too.

The Ford safes come with the Console Vault upgraded 4-digit keyless lock. For $59 I can buy the "Elite 4-Digit Lock" from Console Vault. They advertise that it takes 10-15 minutes to install. The Elite lock looks easier to see and use. Last thing I want to do is squint at tiny numbers when I need to access the safe.

If I'm doing my arithmetic correctly, looks like I should buy the front safe directly from Console Vault if I want the Elite 4-digit lock. (I don't have any Pass points left.)

$329 (Ford website's front vault) + $49 (Elite 4-digit lock) = $378

$348 (Console Vault's website front vault with Elite 4-digit lock)

This seems like a lot of trouble and cost, just to protect condoms.

What?

SusieQ, I have the rear under seat vault and find it very useful. I personally need a flashlight to see the numbers for the combination but it's fine.

I just looked it up on their web site. Installation is not too terribly hard, if you're handy with hand tools. Granted, not everyone is. I may look into one after I get my Maverick, but it's not quite here yet.

The Console Vault is not bad. I just purchased another console version for the Bronco Raptor I purchased yesterday, it was on sale direct through CV.. IMO no need to pay the little extra for the 4 digit combo, the 3 digit is the same and it’s not like someone is going to try more than 1000 try’s to open it. LOL

If you spend more than 10 minutes installing the console version in the Maverick you’re doing something wrong. I’ve installed them in both of my Mavericks, very easy and straight forward. If you can’t turn a wrench you can do it.

Good luck

.

Thanks much! I was interested in the version of the 4-digit combo that looks like the wheels are raised and numbers more visible.

I'm pretty handy. Rear one will be a cinch. Front one is a bit tight to reach in.

OK, but the 3-digit version is exactly the same (wheels and raised numbers). The only difference is there are 3 number wheels vs 4 number wheels, and $35 savings...

I have both versions...

Good luck...

Thanks, John. The rear safe that Ford carries, that I could use my Ford Pass points on, has 4 wheels. There's nothing else I wanted to use my points on.

If I get the center console vault too, from Console Vault since I don't have any more Pass points, I haven't decided which option to get. There are 3 combo lock choices, a 3-wheel and 2 different 4-wheel versions. I used to have one in my Toyota with the key option, but worry about getting seperated from my keys - so I'll probably get a combo. I don't care if it's 3 or 4 wheels, but I do like the more prominent wheels of the elite 4-digit.
