Hey folks,
So I put my order in back in August, expecting it to be put in as a '23 when the order banks open. Waited about two months before hearing anything. Finally got a call from my dealer saying my '22 order was being converted to '23 and that they had lost my contact info somehow (the dealership changed ownership in the last month).

I still haven't actually received anything from ford directly and I suspect the dealer may not be being entirely honest about my order. Or else that they are just as confused as I am!
Has anyone delt with this kind of weird back and forth? I'm planning to call again tomorrow to see if I can confirm I actually have an order under my name.

Order banks didn't open until 9/15 so what you placed in August was a pre-order most likely. Yes, call them ASAP since the '23 order banks are closed now. Confusion all the way around. Which dealer?

Yeah, it was a pre order, which makes it all the more confusing since they're now referring to it as a 2022 order. It's Downtown ford in Sacramento CA

packages have changed since your pre order, maybe he's actually doing his job though a bit late

Well, I got an update. Apparently it's built and sitting on a train in Indiana. No VIN from the dealer and still nothing from ford. But good news taken with a grain of salt!

That doesn't really sound likely. WHO gave you this update? An August "Order" wasn't an order, but if he put it in in September, you are looking for a 2023, not a 2022. Ford is 1-800-334-4375 to get some info.

Hate to say this but if what you already posted is true then no its not on a train. If you 'ordered' in August it was a pre-order for a 2023 model. No way it can be a 2022. And 2023 production is starting today or tomorrow.

Now if the dealership changed hands and things got confused, they might have your order number mixed up with an older one. Order numbers are not unique, just arbitrarily assigned numbers.

You need to physically go to the dealer and sit down and have them show you what is happening. Makes sure the specs on the truck on the train exactly match what you ordered.

Could be they "ordered" something that was really reserving dealer stock? Thus no VIN assigned, no communication from Ford, but built and on a train.

Yeah, obviously whatever truck the dealer is tracking isn't my 23 order, I doubt they even placed it.
My best guess is that they're passing off either a cancelled order or dealer stock to cover up their mistake. But hey, there isn't really anything I can do right now but wait and see.
They offered me 2022 MSRP on it, so I might as well play along and maybe come out on top.

Fingers crossed huh? You may have a unicorn here with a truck that came in faster than expected. Good luck.
