I have been using my new Maverick for three months now. I purchased car Air freshener which contain liquid. Unfortunately it was dripping on the AC control buttons which caused it to peal. I am attaching a photo to warn everyone not to use it on their new truck as well as looking for recommendation to fix it.
I went to the dealership to check if this is cover d under the extended warranty and unfortunately it is not and they said it will require a full replacement of the control panel which will cost couple to thousand dollar.
Any suggestions on how I can cheaply fix it? I do not think something like this should be costing alot.

Maybe some matte black model paint and a small brush.
Maybe an airbrush and tape.

I bet a detail shop may have some experience fixing that.

They use these same exact controls in many models. Look for used with the same exact buttons you have. Should be plug and play.

The Ford technician said to me today that the buttons can not be replaced alone, and that I will need to replace the whole control unit. Not sure this is accurate.

This is a common problem with air fresheners. They contain oil which acts as the carrier for the fragrance. If they drip or leak, and they usually do, this is the result as it attacks the coating of the controls. It will also do this if laid on the surface of the controls, particularly the traction control buttons, auto start/stop, etc.

New cars generally don't have odors so I'm intrigued that you're using a freshener.

Good luck with the repair. 👍

That’s what he’s saying. Find a used unit. No way in hell that will be a couple thousand. Couple hundred at most

You can find the same control panel cheap in a salvage yard. The following models used the same control unit. EcoSport, escape, bronco sport. You shouldn't have to pay more than 50 shipped and you cannot replace just the buttons, need to do the whole unit. The only issue you'll probably find is that the others will have a button for rear defrost which is fine, it'll just be a dead button.

It's a pick-up TRUCK.

What are you doing putting air fresheners in there?

Use the natural air freshener located between your cheeks......the ones on the seats.

Same.. I can't imagine using an air freshener in any of my cars, ever. Cars should smell like cars.

I used to hang air fresheners off my turn signal bar in my x5…. Eventually ate through the top layers of plastic…. Never again, if you need an air freshener spray it or get those discs you put on the ground…

listen to fake cowboy tho, that’s the ticket and that whole unit is pretty damn easy to pull out (I’ve pulled mine out at least a dozen times, no exaggeration)

I know I shouldn't have used any air refresher, specially the one that contain liquid.
It suck there isn't much parts available for this truck yet. Also what is wired is that buttons can't be replaced. I was hoping it's is like a computer keyboard where it can be easily removed and replaced.

I have to pull mine again here in the next day or 3, I can look back there and see if you could get them out but I’m pretty sure why you can’t just replace them is you’d have to break away the whole housing…. Off memory it seems raked tighter than a ________
