I have been using my new Maverick for three months now. I purchased car Air freshener which contain liquid. Unfortunately it was dripping on the AC control buttons which caused it to peal. I am attaching a photo to warn everyone not to use it on their new truck as well as looking for recommendation to fix it.
I went to the dealership to check if this is cover d under the extended warranty and unfortunately it is not and they said it will require a full replacement of the control panel which will cost couple to thousand dollar.
Any suggestions on how I can cheaply fix it? I do not think something like this should be costing alot.

A nail technician might be able to help fill those blemishes...

I have to pull mine again here in the next day or 3, I can look back there and see if you could get them out but I’m pretty sure why you can’t just replace them is you’d have to break away the whole housing…. Off memory it seems raked tighter than a ________
Please keep me posted.

I blame SC Johnson and their constant push for their stupid Febreze air fresheners. When I watch something on YouTube, every 3rd commercial is for an air freshener. No one needs these things

Found one on eBay (click here) from a 2021 escape. Looks about right. It has a blank button on the bottom. I would verify all functions you need are there. Looks like the model number LJ6T-18C612-GB or M1PT18C612GD will work.

Thanks Rob. It looks the same.
However, I would wait a little before I buy a new one which I can do later. I will try to live with it for now. I tried coloring it today with a black acrylic marker. See picture below. Not perfect but a bit better.

No problem, that is what I would have done as well. It’s a truck after all.

This is a common problem with air fresheners. They contain oil which acts as the carrier for the fragrance. If they drip or leak, and they usually do, this is the result as it attacks the coating of the controls. It will also do this if laid on the surface of the controls, particularly the traction control buttons, auto start/stop, etc.

New cars generally don't have odors so I'm intrigued that you're using a freshener.

Good luck with the repair. 👍
Perhaps he dislikes the new car smell lol or has odorous contents in his cab.
