If you have to change the battery couldnt you connect a battery jump box to it and not lose power to car.there fore you wouldnt lose the bms and anything else that would cause problems when you have no power?

Not sure I follow what your asking, any time you work on a vehicle under the hood it’s a good idea to disconnect the battery. For instance if you have to replace any fuses or relay blocks, it can be a bummer to have to reset radio stations or the clock, but it’s better than shortening something out.

It's not going to "hurt" the BMS to replace the battery. All you need to do is disconnect the battery, remove it, install the new one, connect the new one, and run the BMS reset procedure. Only really need to worry about messing things up if you connect it wrong..

You want the BMS to reset because it's learned that the battery is worn. It needs to forget that.

Unless the battery is disconnected for an extended duration, you really don't need to worry about any of the other computers resetting, either.

Here is a guy doing something similar with a second car.

Jump to 1 min 26 sec.

For the Civic, losing power causes all sorts of things when power is restored: alarm will go off, stuff on the head unit gets wiped, and you have to drive for 10 minutes before some systems work again (e.g. traction control).
Just went through this yesterday for my son’s Civic, but turned out his battery was basically dead, remote unlock didn’t even work, so we did not try the trick.

I guess the question was a little misleading 😞i meant to say connect the jumper box cables to the battery cables before removing them.I figured if the truck never lost what power it may still have you wouldnt have to reset anything.but I understand what everyone said so I guess i dont need to do this.but wouldnt know if i didnt ask😃thank you

Pages 281 - 284 in the manual explains this.

Short answer if using a jump pack, follow the jump packs instructions.

Using another vehicle the order and placement is first postive cable to discharged battery postive terminal, next postive cable to the booster battery, next negative cable to negative terminal on booster battery, finally negative cable to metal chassis or ground connection point if available on the vehicle with discharged battery. Just keep that connection away from the battery and fuel injection system. Procedure is the same for both 2.0L and 2.5L hybrid, just make sure you jump or use to jump the 12 volt battery on a hybrid.

As far as the BMS goes you really only have to reset it if you lose functionality like auto / start stop after jumping or changing a battery. The rest of the systems except for maybe the radio will have some sort of coin cell type battery or use a charged capacitor to hold settings as goes into sleep mode.

For what ever reason you should be able to use the battery post provided under the hood and supply 12 volts to them and remove the battery under the rear seat. Once a battery it reinstalled under the seat and connected then remove the source under the hood.

As mentioned above make sure you connect the correct polarity. The system should continue to operate like no way interruption occured.

Have I tried this. No. But I wouldn't hesitate if I needed too. 12 volts is 12 volts.
