The 8-track was so annoying to me. Depending on the record company, they'd either fade out/fade in the track change or just abruptly change it in the middle of the song.
I had a deck stolen from the car and they picked through the box of tapes and took their favorites...that just frosted me. "Stole the Led Zep IV, but not the Ian Hunter? Really?"
I saved up and got a Craig cassette player and matching EQ amplifier instead.

Have you ever thought about it this way -

An 8-track player still works 60 years after being made. Has never needed software updates, needs no data plan for streaming from a service that will someday be shut off, may not have even needed a belt change or head cleaning... Not too long ago, there have been cutting edge technologically advanced audio/media formats that people have bought and now can no longer be played (DRM'd audio where the auth server gets shut down, Divx Digital Video Express, and more).

If left alone, will our Mavericks still be functional in that same amount of time? That "obsolete" piece of technology has enjoyed a far longer life than any modern technology made today likely will. That tech has my respect. It feels like it was made in a time when durability and longevity were valued more significantly than they are today.

I'm surprised that you found working units! That being said I can't imagine going back to 8-track! I just hated how on some songs it would switch during the song or "hear" other songs in background! Cassettes were a leap over 8-tapes, but of course some drawback, like when the player decided to ead my Led Zep 4 tape on a first date!! I feel retro when I put on a CD in my 2013 BMW that's retro enough for me!

The CD player is USB. And has a aux output cable that plugs directly into the FM transmitter. I bought it from Amazon.
