Curious to see if any others are contemplating using a CB.
It appears that the forward part of the center console may be the ideal position.
My XLT does not have phone charging so this area is redundant.
Any thoughts?

Is anyone still on CB? I know there’s a small community of HAM weirdos here in metro detroit that all communicate via a repeater on top of the Renaissance Center. Don’t know anyone that runs a CB.

Most truckers run CB'S. I travel major highways & the info they provide is valuable.
Whether notifying you of accidents, highway debris, Road Condition, Smokey bears etc!!!!
It goes a long way to have this info in real time.
It has saved me much highway misery over the years.
I agree CB'S are not a city thing but they do prove their worth on the big roads.

I was actually thinking of putting a CB in mine too and getting a portable version to keep in the backseat storage to lend to anyone I am convoying with. I had the idea to go with the
Uniden CMX760 Bearcat Off-Road Compact CB Radio with Mic Display and the PRESIDENT VIRGINIA CB ANTENNA
Then mount a clip to the top of the cubby and shove the excess cable into the cubby for storage, when not in use. I like the idea of having a CB in an emergency for communicating and information gathering when cellular towers are overloaded.

Following this because I'm a "HAM weirdo" (🤪 Art_Vandelay). I'm wondering where I can mount my ICOM ID5100, antenna and how to route the coax without interfering with the airbags & stuff.

Look at page 509 of the truck manual. That will tell you where to mount the antenna. As for routing the coax and other wiring, that goes along with where you want to place the speaker, control head, actual rig and any other components. Almost all installations are different due to personal choices as to placements.
You can find the truck manual or a link to download it on this site.

Thank you Spook, I *do* have the manual downloaded. You've just saved me time paging thru it! ;)

Looks like the recommend antenna locations (for up to 50w transmitting on 70cm & 2m) are centerline at the same location as the AM/FM/SiriusXM antenna or on the tailgate. Neither are ideal and the latter is downright silly. I'm thinking maybe a thru-roof mount 1/4 wave (on 2m) at the back of the passenger side roof or a 1/2 wave (on 2m) on side of the outside of the back of the bed to keep it as far from me (the driver) as practical. Of course the latter course entails not only drilling the mount hole, but another hole from the cabin into the bed for the coax and i do already have an old Diamond SG7000 (18") that I could put on the roof.

Hmmmmm ... at least I've got time to think on it. :)

Au contraire, CB Radio and HAM is not dead...

Just remember when, not if, your internet fails or your mobile calls won't go thru due to network down or congestion (cyber attack, disaster, failed patch etc) the radio will still work assuming you have a power source. You'll be informed of what is happening and be able to act accordingly.

I'm in Telecommunications.
Just last week there was a major outage that affected thousands of VOIP service...
Radio is still relevant...do go soft or be fooled into thinking otherwise.
