This is not likely to help anyone in this group, but if you are considering ordering a Maverick here's something to remember. I ordered my Alto Blue Hybrid Maverick online on August 4. I got an immediate email confirmation from Ford and a call from the dealership rep. The dealership rep thanked me for my order and told me I was in line for the order.

Nothing happened and on Oct 5 I took my Mustang in for service and thought I would check my order status. The Maverick order manager said I needed to come in to complete the order. He apologized for the misinformation on the phone call, but now my order is dated October 5. I guess I'm the dummy here, but some dealers did not really know how to provide accurate information about the process early on. Hope that is corrected now. Still waiting, but now know I'm much later than I should have been.

Yes, some dealerships are completely clueless. The first one I ordered at never had me sign a DORA, didn't even know what a DORA was when I asked about it. After a week of nagging the dealership about why I had no confirmation, I finally got a confirmation email from Ford but my order was never properly verified because there was no signed DORA. While I was in the process or ordering with Chapman the first dealership contacted me and said they were trying to "fix" my order because it was "on hold" so I told them not to bother. I doubt anybody who ordered at that dealership will actually get a Maverick.

So if you have to go in to sign papers, how do the ones that ordered several states away handle this?

I had the same thing happen to me. I signed all the paperwork emailed it over and for whatever reason the dealership never sent it in. Months later I had to go do the entire process over again in person. What I learned is it doesn’t hurt to double check even 3-4 times even speak with the manager if needed.

The dealer emailed me a copy and I printed it out, signed it, filled in the customer name, address and other info, scanned it, and returned it by email. The dealer then asked for a scanned copy of my driver's license which I happily sent. That afternoon, I received the confirmation from Ford. The next day I received a Scheduled for Production for week of November 8, 2021, which was changed to week of October 25 a couple of days ago.

All of it has been seamless and efficient.

Question: Did you order a Maverick online? Or did you reserve a Maverick online?

I ask because I don't remember ever seeing a way to actually order online. I could be wrong (because I could be confusing this with the F-150 Lightening reservation process).

What I do remember doing is putting in a reservation and getting an email from a dealer that said "Thank you for your interest in the 2022 Ford Maverick! We've received your reservation request. A representative from Xxxxxxx Ford will be contacting you soon with specific vehicle information, pricing and availability. "

I'm wondering if I will actually be able to order online when the Lightning becomes available.

I also reserved one online and received the dealer's email about contact. The difference is that we live in the back woods of East Texas and I preferred a different dealer. I sent an email to the Internet Sales Manger. Talked with her on the phone a couple of times before she emailed me the information.

I wouldn’t imagine being able to order the Lightning online from Ford.com. We don’t buy from Ford but from the dealers.

If Ford allowed ordering directly from them and then just assigned your order to a dealer that would be nice though as that would eliminate any dealer funny business.

I think I misspoke. I actually reserved, only the dealer can order. Where the ball dropped was that the dealer expected me to come in and confirm, but did not make that clear. Once I did that the dealer ordered. My issue was losing two months in the process. I did not have to sign anything but watched them input order. That has bern confirmed from Ford. Then hybrid scheduling stopped. Just anxious for it to resume—like everyone else.

That sounds normal.

The OP's description sounded more like he completed an actual order online before any contact with the dealer. That's what I'm asking about.

It could be that the salesman just didn't understand the process and thought that the reservation was an actual order, only to find out later that more steps were involved.

I was thinking more along the lines of a centralized ordering system where the order is passed through to your chosen dealer in your area. The reservation system works something like that. You make a reservation online through Ford's system but choose your dealership at the same time.

Lots of vendors work that way. I can order on the central Home Depot website and then pick up my new refrigerator from a store near my home. Seems like they could make it work with the new "special order" system Ford is headed toward, if they wanted to. But maybe they prefer giving the salesmen a chance to upsell.

Ok, I understand what you mean now.

As for not signing anything... you might want to check out some of the threads on here about price problems that can occur at delivery if you don't have a writing signed by both parties. Here are a couple of them:
