Ok, I just want to understand it better and get my math right.

so let's use this as an example: https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/2811805

It has only 838 miles so we can say it's practically new. MSRP + TTL for a base XLT would be around $24,900 MSRP+$1600 Destination 2000 TTL = $28,500, and if you sell it to Carvana, I think they might give you $30,500 so they can make $2,000 - $3,000 on the truck gross (they have a lot of costs too). While a $2,000-$ 3,000 profit for the truck owner is great, if you flip it to get to the next truck, you still need to pay for TTL which probably makes the total cost a wash. Am I missing something?

I did a quick "get offer" thing on Carvana for my maverick. The offer is $32,300 for a 23 Hybrid XLT with about $1,600 options (CP360 + tow hitch + 400w invertor). I paid almost $30k out of the door after TTL. I am not sure if the $2,300 profit is worth it.

I don't mean to start a debate. I am just trying to figure out the math to see if it makes sense to sell this truck when my 24 order is here (24 order is almost identical and will be $2000 more expensive than the 23 one.
Depends on your state. In Texas you get a Tax credit on the value of your trade which in this case would be close to $2k.

Carvana just offered $8370 over my purchase price of a 2022 First Edition Lariat hybrid with almost 14000 miles on it with all but one recall completed and odometer showing 45.7 mpg over life of vehicle. Guess it shows I don’t drive it hard. Will never sell.

Where you are makes a huge difference as well. In my area XL EB & Hybrid are both still listing for 10k over MSRP. XLT 10-15k. Lariat 10-15k. Every single one of them, even one with a rebuilt title! Are they selling? No idea, not watching that closely since I'm not buying.
This is it right here. Depends on location now. A cursory glance in western PA shows 5 or 6 Mavericks that appeared to be in stock, every one $5k over…. Except a couple were that ā€œ call for priceā€ bs.

A lot of it is due to the recalls. It's a risk that a lot of people are not willing to take. It may trigger some forum members here who act like they are immune to said issues in the recall, but they are not. Aside from that, lots of reasons people trade in/sell vehicles.

As for pricing - purely location based and nothing more. It's disgusting.
Ya, I kind a wondered why, I was always asked to enter my "Zip code" when checking things out.
Most of the Dealers in the Metro MKE area, have large markups...

I've seen almost 100 near-new Mavericks being available on the Carvana website. Many of them have less than 1,000 miles. Of course, they are above the MSRP but not by a whole lot. So my question is why did the seller let go of these trucks at such low mileage? I don't see if they are making a lot of money on these after all the hassle of ordering and waiting and paying sales tax and license fees etc. I don't get it.
While waiting for my XLT that took 18 months I wanted to upgrade but, at that time they wouldn't let me. So, I ordered a Lariat.
2 months after I received my XLT my Lariat came in and I traded it back to the dealer. The XLT had perhaps 1500 miles on it and was like new. I liked my XLT, zero issues, everything perfect, I just wanted to upgrade.

So were you able to make some more money from your trade? I am thinking the same thing. I I am thinking of going to the dealer and changing my 24 order to a Lariat. If I can somehow make my 23 XLT a net positive of a few thousand dollars, that will make the additional cost of a Lariat "reasonable"...

Nope, I recently got an offer of 24k down from the 29k a year ago.
Exactly. It really depends on demand in your specific area. My Hybrid XLT Lux w/ CP360 came in a few months ago, OTD was $27.8k, Carmax offered $29k and Carvana 28k. So barely breakeven when I was considering whether to keep the F150 I picked up while waiting nearly 2 years for the Maverick. I think some people are still able to profit, but it's not nearly a guarantee like a year ago.

Without entering any debates, I'll offer my data points. My XL Hybrid was $24K A-Plan, $26K out the door. Carvana offered me $28,800 ten days ago with 3100 miles. Just now, they offered $28,700 with 3700 miles. Fourteen cents per mile is a better depreciation rate than you'll see with just about any other vehicle.
In southern Michigan, a majority of sales are A, Z, X Plan, and the salesman said they don't want to upset the apple cart by trying to refuse A Plan and sell them with a mark up. Other places, they don't care about repeat A Plan customers and will take advantage when they can.

I bought mine in May only put 1100 miles on it. No issues, it was good vehicle, just didn't like driving it. I had an opportunity to trade and get what I paid for it....it was a mistake to buy in the first place for me but with the good resale value, I didn't have to pay for it.

I made $2k more than I paid for the XLT. Dealer lowballed me and I went to Carvana and got a quote, he then upped his offer. It helped. The Lariat is worth it, you'll like it.
I went back to the dealer the next day to get something I left in it and it was already gone.

I traded in my Maverick with 4500 miles. There was a couple of things I didn’t like about it, particularly the way it drove. I had a carbonized gray XL Hybrid with the rear window, pilot 360 and a tow hitch, I waited for over a year to get it. When I placed the order there was no way to test drive it, pretty much just had to trust Ford that it was a good driving truck. When I got the call that it had arrived I went and picked it up with no hesitation, it drove great. I didn’t get on it right away and also didn’t carry a load for about 1k miles, I just wanted to break it in properly. The problems started after the 1k, when I was able to get on it a little more. 3 times while trying to pass on the highway the power cut off, it’s hard to describe the feeling but pretty much just felt as if TC was cutting off power or something. There was no chance I was losing traction and TC was kicking in at 50mph, but that was the feeling. My other issue was with coming to a stop. If regen was engaged, towards the last few feet of coming to a stop, it would disengage and it would feel as if I was slamming on the breaks, something about the transition between regenerative braking and the actual breaks is not quite dialed in yet. The ride was fine, it felt fine on the highway but at about 80mpg the steering felt wobbly, almost like a bad balancing job. Interior was very easily scratched and the infotainment kept freezing on me. Also it sucks that you have to be plugged in to use the apple play. I got a couple of door dings at a parking lot and both times the paint chipped, I’m not sure why but it did, I feel like that shouldn’t happen but it did, that was pretty much the straw that broke the camels back. Didn’t make it to the first oil change where I’m sure I would have addressed some of the issues to the stealership. To many small things made me decide to just get rid of it. I took the truck to Carmax and they offered me 27k, my msrp was 25,700 since I had a few options. In the end I decided to trade it in, they gave me the 27k as trade in value, I was able to save on about 2500 in taxes for my new truck, to me it was better than getting a check for 28,500 from Carvana. I went with a 2024 Honda Pilot for the family that I got for 1k under msrp and was able to get a decent APR, lower than Ford had me at for the Mav. I took over my wife’s 2014 Grand Cherokee overland for work and I haven’t been happier, I’m sorry I didn’t fall in love with it, I really wanted it to work but I feel like coming from more dialed in cars like the GC I was spoiled and expected too much from a basic FWD truck.

I traded my EB Lariat with 3,690 miles on it in to Carvana after I ordered a '24. The dealership wouldn't give me a fair price on the trade in value. I didn't make any money on it, but I did get a 2021 Lariat Ranger for practically a straight trade. Carvana then over priced the Maverick at $42,000. It just sold earlier this month for $38,590 after 2.5 months.

Basically, the Maverick's value isn't steady, and to minimize the amount of trade in value lost, I went with something that's value is fairly consistent.

My '24 EB Lariat is scheduled to start production next week. I will be so happy to be back in a Mav... I am going to miss my Ranger's bed, and the fact that I easily hopped a street curb in it this morning to park in the grass.
