Carlinkit Doesn't Work on Non-SYNC 3 Mavericks?

I've seen some people say that Carlinkit (or other CarPlay adapters) doesn't work on Mavericks without SYNC 3.

Is this still the case?

says you must have CarPlay availability. Not sure if the non-Sync3 audio set up has CarPlay. Also there is another thread that talks specifically about CarlinKit, is this where you heard?

The XL and XLT do have CarPlay, but people were saying they couldn't set up the wireless adapters properly.

There's another thread about CPLAY2air, and that doesn't seem to work with non-SYNC 3 models as well.

No delays, phone call quality surprised me

Another vote for TNVTEC although I did have it work 50% of the time until I did the software update and seems to work every time now.
