This rig includes a car fire extinguisher since this is a 2023 recall vehicle. The rear support was made using a plan from online. Had the lumber on hand and the hardware cost $25. It is attached to a 2x8 that fits in the grooves of the bed cover sidewalls. The top rack is a TOROS Pro 4 rack made to fit Mavericks. Shipped free from Turkey at less than $200 using Etsy. The tie downs are part of an Amazon kayak/ canoe tie down kit. The 16' Old Town canoe rigged for fishing was shipped to my remote location by REI for $160 came shipped in a huge plastic bag that had an LAX sticker on it. Hired two local teens to help me get it on top.

That looks about perfect.
Do you have any additional info on the rear support or where you got the plans?

Again the 2x6 or 2x8 base fits in the molded grooves of the factory installed bed liner walls.

Nice set up.

My experience on hauling my 17 foot Wee-no-nah Spirit canoe onthe top of my Subaru Outback finds that the Yakima rails are more than sufficient. Not sure a rear support in the the bed of the Maverick is necessary but certainly it is a personal choice. Being a "Crew Cab" on the Maverick should have enough distance between the crossbars. I don't have crossbars on my Maverick but could do so in the future.

As far as tie downs I uses nylon webbing cut into a 2-3 inch strip and folded in half to make loop. I then attach it under the hood to bolts under the fender liner. Several You Tube videos on the process. I use the rear tow hitch safety chain loops for the aft portion of the canoe. You can also buy something like this from Amazon for the front if you prefer:

Looks great. I’ve been thinking of doing something similar on my next canoe trip. We only canoe a few times a summer and the truck has a trifold tonneau. We’ve got a 17 ft clipper (family trip canoe).

I was just going to freehand it with lumber from the scrap pile and tie the front down through the windows (no roof rack)

Nice...we must travel a 100 mile round trip up and down mountains on major California highways....so wanted to make it somewhat aerodynamic...they do make these sets of four rubber type blocks with slits in them that will go directly on a roof and protect your roof a bit.

Might the Toros Pro 4 and ties downs be enough? I suppose that is what is being suggested. Of course the rack would need to be spaced as wide as possible on the cab. Personally, I'm thinking of adding more protective film on the door frame so I can move my Toros rack around. Also, I found if I put a lot of weight on the Toros, it needs to be retightened a bit.

I put my cooler in the bed, so I don't know if that bed rack is cramping your style or not. Either way, that's still a pretty nice canoe rack.

Tom good insights...this canoe needs support at about 58 inches from each pointed end according the manufacturer.. Lots of room remains in the truck bed but it would be constrained if a lot of suitcases were needed to be packed. Thanks for the info on the Toros I will check tightness. This canoe is 98 pounds. Thanks again Joe
