If this is a one time move and you dont have a continued use for special racks purchased, I would suggest just renting a box truck for the day. Its not a big expense and you could also grab other challenging odd ball items for the move.

be safe and best wishes. Moving is always a chore.

I presently carry my 12'8" kayak on the rack pictured, and previously a 14' yak. Lightweight plastic so I am quite cognizant of spacing and in the picture is my 2010 Ranger with its six foot bed. I carried my yak on SWMBO's mommy van before I got the Ranger with a bed extender and even with the bow on the dashboard, and across the seats it still stuck out too far to my liking. I have a Mav on order and am considering buying both a ladder rack for the rear of the bed AND an over the cabin rack to get closer to the 6 foot spacing I used to have. (Hoping to find one wanting to do the same so we can split the purchases, lol.) Also wondering which over the cabin rack would be best without damaging the truck's paint.

That's a sweet looking Ranger, I had a 95 before getting my Maverick.

I considered this, but the extender only gives an extra 3 feet at most. The canoe is 17 feet tip to tip. That means 10 feet of very heavy canoe is hanging off the back. The center of mass will be hanging off without support.

The ladder rack suggested above might be the ticket, though.

Unless someone can tell me where to rent a cheap boat/canoe trailer in Ohio?
The hitch extender would be in the upright position and you would pad the roof and strap it through the cab with NRS type Straps. I have a basic cab roof rack that I bought for $250, but I'm saying use foam blocks on the cab. If you have a sunroof, I might not try it on the cab.
