My build date is about 3 weeks out on an XLT Hybrid. I want to change the color and my dealer ways you can’t After there is a vin. Anyone know if that is true? Thanks, I have never ordered a new car before.

Sounds correct to me. My dealer said the same.

If you have a vin number assigned from what Tim Bartz (Long McArthur Ford) and others have said, it is scheduled for build as is on window sticker. You can pass up that build and reorder but you will wait at the end of the line again and might lose deposit if your dealer required one.
Just out of curiosity, what color did you order and what were you going to change it to?

I think it's technically not impossible after scheduling as long as it isn't a VIN-identified feature (and color isn't one) and window sticker hasn't been generated, but it takes a lot of string pulling to do.

Thats correct. No change after VIN is assigned.

My experience has been when the vehicle is in production you have a window sticker. Mine shows the additional charge for Hot Pepper Red on the line with optional equipment/ others. It may not be a VIN- identified feature but it is noted on the window sticker which includes VIN#, blend date, and mode of transport to your dealer.

Sorry for the slow response. I ordered Carbonized Gray and then I saw one on the street. It was Blah to me. I was choosing it for resale, not having a 'cool' color that would then be dated. After I saw one, I thought, get what you like! Ohh well, I am sure it will be fine. I have already been waiting since July, so I am not going to reorder. If I were to reorder, I would get a Lightning. Next time!! Thanks for the responses
