I put the strobe controller in as I was unsure about getting an error on the dash from a strobing bulb. With the controller there are no issues.
Ok. I ordered the stobe bulbs and kept the controller. I'll try the bulbs and if as you say the dash goes crazy, I can use the controller. Thank you.

UPDATE: Installed the bulb ... no issues from the dash.

Do these things flash just when you start to brake? Or do they just keep flashing when stopped?

Those brake light modulators are so annoying, especially in stop and go traffic. Used to be a big thing in the DC area 10 years ago. Thankfully no more. No longer see them on motorcycles either. I had one on one of my motorcycles but took it off. No need to trigger a road rager.

The bulbs are set to flash 3 to 4 times unlike the module, As most states will allow for the 3 to 4 pulse you are better off with the bulbs. I put resistors under the hood for my switchback bulbs so when my flash bulbs come in will update if I get any hyperflash

So the ones with the module just keep flashing? That sucks.

Someone posted a 2 second video of their truck going down the road and it was flashing the whole time when they put the brake lights on, So yes the strobe module don't cut it

Three or four flashes just as you start to brake, then solid red.

3 flashes then steady is the legal standard from what I have read.

NHTSA position is "

After the vehicle is sold, Federal law prohibits any manufacturer, dealer, distributor, or motor vehicle repair business from installing the sensor to modify the performance of the third brake light and cause it to flash.

However, Federal law does not prohibit the owner of the car from installing the sensor. In this circumstance, the law of the State in which the vehicle is operated must be consulted to determine whether a flashing third brake light is permissible."

For me the flashing is annoying. What I was able to locate for research on the subject indicated flashing and higher intensity LED brake lights are effective in improving safety. NHTSA study

Thanks for adding to this thread. I agree the flashing can be annoying and unlike too bright headlamps, there's really no way to know if you're bothering other drivers. What I would like to see are brake lights that intensify the harder you apply the brakes. In that manner, one could tell if other cars were braking normally or coming to a sudden stop.

Incorrect. My module flashes 4 times fast, then 4 times slow, then it goes solid on.
Not sure if it's going to work, but I buy the LSC-100A from Super Bright LEDs and have never had an issue.

To those that are complaining about the strobe- my feeling is anything I can do to be more visible, I'm going to do.
A co-worker has been out for 6 months with a bulged disk in his neck after getting rear ended by an inattentive driver, at slow speed. As I understand it, there is no "cure" for a neck/spine injury like that, just Band-Aids like cortisone shots to help reduce the pain for some time.
If an annoying flashing light will prevent dealing with a lifelong injury: sorry, I'm going to be annoying.

Always thought having your third brake light above the cab stobe 3 times when applying the brakes was a great idea and figured I want that for the Maverick. Purchased the strobe (inexpensive and small enough to fit inside the cab light cavity) but suddenly balked a bit at cutting the wires to the red bulb. Now, I"m no stranger to electrical mods (auto dimming mirror, bed lighting and usb/cig outlets), but I guess I'm not wanting to pioneer the install. YouTube shows it to be pretty straight forward. Any thoughts or experiences with this modification?

You do know strobes can trigger epilepsy fits in some people and affect vision in others. Keep your insurance at the max and a large umbrella policy in case you cause an accident with the strobe.

Yes, I am aware of that and thank you for reminding me and others. The flashing is very fast and only 3x, so I'm thinking it won't be any different than a flashing turn signal.

I hate those flashing 3rd lights, & LED turn signals make me nauseous if I look at it too long. I first noticed this when behind semi trailers.
