Always thought having your third brake light above the cab stobe 3 times when applying the brakes was a great idea and figured I want that for the Maverick. Purchased the strobe (inexpensive and small enough to fit inside the cab light cavity) but suddenly balked a bit at cutting the wires to the red bulb. Now, I"m no stranger to electrical mods (auto dimming mirror, bed lighting and usb/cig outlets), but I guess I'm not wanting to pioneer the install. YouTube shows it to be pretty straight forward. Any thoughts or experiences with this modification?

From what I am told from another poster this is something my dealer installs as a required option. Of course they charge alot for it. I am not even sure it's legal! I really don't want it

I believe it is legal as long as it is only applied to the third brake light. Illegal to apply brake flash to your normal rear brake lights.

No experience with this particular modification, but from installing a new third taillight (with strobe integrated) I can tell you that the harness is well restrained. It will be easier to splice and In order to have slack to work with, to release one of the restraints - wear sleeves as the edge of the headliner can cut. This takes a bit of braille work coupled with a bit of contortionist.

Alternatively, could you make up a Y-harness adapter on the bench and then just plug and play?

Thank you for the reply. Little by little I'm picking up tidbits of information which I can piece together.
So, you're thinking of finding the harness which is located under the headliner. Had not thought of that. In disassembling the cab light fixture I was able to see the wires directly connecting the red brake light. Not much room to splice into, but it looked doable.

Yes, assuming you might want to pull the third light and do the splice work at the bench. Ford didn't leave much slack, but the light pigtail can be unplugged by pulling the headliner down (used nylon trim tools) just enough to feel and unplug the pigtail...

This sounds like a much better alternative. Many thanks for your input and for posting the link!

@Dad I installed a very similar flasher for my third brake light. Quick and easy to install in less than 30 mins with no issues.
I was following the wife the other day on my work truck and snagged the above video.
For reference, that’s a VLEDS bulb in there.

Thank you for your efforts in making and sending a video! So, just to be clear . . . you installed the strobe controller or did you install the flashing bulb that someone posted here a bit earlier?

I put the strobe controller in as I was unsure about getting an error on the dash from a strobing bulb. With the controller there are no issues.
