I got my Maverick with steel wheels, but always planned on replacing them (I don't like the look). After watching for a couple weeks, I finally found some Bronco Sport (Big Bend) wheel and tires (new takeoffs) that were local to me and at a good price. I'm very happy with them. Nothing that hasn't been seen before, but I figured I would post what I noticed for anyone going down the same road.
I read a lot of the post here on lug nuts and such for the Bronco Sport wheels (including the long argument thread ). I chose to use Gorilla Wheel Locks. I'm happy to say that they fit nicely. I can see what some people say about the OEM lug nuts from the steel wheels "not fitting right". I think they are safe, and don't think they damaged the wheels, but they do not feel like they fit as well as the Gorilla lug nut I got. I went to a shop to get the TPMS's switched over and the new wheels balanced. The tech there also commented about the OEM lug nuts not feeling like they fit right (I had they use the OEM lug nits because the ones I ordered hadn't come in yet).
I looked at getting normal lug nuts plus a set of 4 locking nuts, but ended up just getting the Gorilla set of all locking lugs. It was about the same price since most of the lug nut sets I was looking at were around $30, and the 4 locks were generally $35-$40. All the wheel locks I have used before were the McGard style ("flower" cut-in on the end). I have to say the Gorilla locks around the circumference feel much more secure when torqueing on the nut. They just have more insertion and don't feel like they will slip out on accident.
I bought the 1.5" length nuts, because that is what most people seemed to recommend here. I didn't want to risk having to return something that did not work (had also been looking at 1.38"-1.45" closed lug nuts). The 1.5" are more than is needed, and shorter ones would work fine. The open OEM nuts are just over 1.2" long, and the studs do not come out of the open end of the nut when they were used with the Bronco wheels. Aftermarket lug nuts may engage deeper in the wheels than the OEM (the "feeling like they fit better"), but its probably not much. The 1.5" ones I got are longer than needed, but not so much that it bothers me. If I was to order again, II think I'd feel comfortable getting 1.4" or maybe even 1.35" nuts. Here is a picture showing how much the 1.5" nuts extend.
The Bronco wheels came with Bronco center caps, so I got replacements on Amazon. There are a variety of styles available. The 54mm outer and 50mm/51mm inner fit perfectly.
