Brake Light Bulb Replacement?

Hello All,

I just picked up my maverick yesterday (7/2021 order date) and have been contemplating putting some tint on the rear break lights for aesthetic purposes. My primary concern is safety, so I am wondering if someone out there has replaced the brake lights with something substantively brighter.

I won't tint the back lights if I can't make sure the overall brightness isn't diminished. I don't know if LEDs would be able to handle the amount of time they are on without overheating? It's been 15 years since I was really in the car modification game, so I'm pretty rusty on this stuff.

I am already getting brighter reverse lights, just looking for a brighter brake light solution that won't give me error codes or overheat.

I used a Mid Smoke Honeycomb Wrap from Luxe. Dark starts to impact the intensity of your lighting. I also changed to LED lights. Backup bulbs and the brake/turn signal bulbs.

Much more intense lighting. Actually brighter than the OEM incandescent without the tint wrap. And they do not hyperflash on my Lariat. Although another MTC member with a XLT has reported intermittent hyperflashing (when their headlights are on). I have about 1500 miles on them now.

These are just tailights, not the brake lights. Very bright!

Also, just taillights. Not brake.

I would check out Diode Dynamics as well.

Thanks for the input, in person do the lights still look as red as in the pictures? I'm wary of getting white bulbs instead of the red.

Yes. They look great! I think white provides more intensity through red and black. Red bulbs look muddier through red and black. Just my preference.

How much tint wrap did you need for your tail lights? Looking at the LUXE website the product is by the foot, yard etc. Thanks

I ordered two yards, uncertain how much I'd need at first. And I ended up needing more than a yard. But that's largely because of the pattern. I wanted honeycomb pattern with flat sides on top and bottom (horizontal). Because of the orientation on the roll, someone could carefully get them out of one yard with the flat sides vertical.

If you did solid color tint wrap, you could do one yard. But you would have no additional to do one again if you borked it. Wrapping the Maverick taillights is a little more advanced of a wrapping job because they bulge and inset and return back at the edges. Lots of relief to these things! Having some extra material wouldn't be a bad idea.

Thanks, that's just what I needed to know. I'll two yards since I've never done wrapping before. I'm going with a solid med darkness like you have because it looks dark enough, but doesn't seem to impede the light brightness, especially with the LED lights, which I also plan on doing.
