Have not noticed anywhere mentioning a block heater. The heated steering wheel, seats, outside mirrors etc. are a blessing here in Canada. It may be a minor gripe but when temps hit minus 20 / minus 40 over nite the benefits of starting your vehicle the next morning cannot be put into words.

I'm in the same boat. I ordered mine with remote start, but when it gets below -20f its a good 20 minutes of wasting gas. Volvo is lax about getting them in the states so I usually get them out of Winnipeg when I can.

The Maverick that the Canadian journalists looked at appeared to have a block heater harness attached to the radiator shroud that hasn't been on US showings.
That's it!

One reason I did a factory order Escape Hybrid was to add that $110 option. Heat sooner, EV sooner once the weather turns. It's not a huge thing, but it wasn't that cold last winter. I don't see cold starting as an issue for the hybrid.

Only problem? The location in the photo doesn't work. The dealership routed it there, too, twice. I got what I wanted after pointing to every diesel in their lot. You don't want to open the hood to use it.

Necessary, no. I park vehicles outside and do plug them occasionally when the temp gets below 10. I have a short commute to work and it definitely helps it warm up faster, get heat sooner and overall start easier. For me, it was worth the $90 bucks on my Bronco sport, but its a matter of preference in our type of climate. If you get anything south of -20f temps, it is recommended by Ford TO use the heater.

I have lived in the Midwest (WI and NE) my whole life and have never used a block heater. Are they useful, sure, but definitely not necessary.

I agree.......they are not necessary to some areas or individuals.
However here in Canada they as I have stated before "are a blessing" as well as a necessity.
When a garage is not available & your only choice in overnight parking is outside they as least give you a chance of starting your vehicle the next morning.
Some areas not only employee Block Heaters but Battery Heaters, Oil dip stick heaters, Engine Blankets, Interior Heaters, etc!
Any temperatures below - 4 Celsius (- 20 Fahrenheit) you have a good chance your vehicle will start but using the above.........will guarantee that chance.
Many times we have seen -40/50 below Fahrenheit not only in Southern Ontario but more so in the North.
Many motels/hotels in the Northern Ontario & across Canada offer exterior plugins for your vehicle just for that reason.
There again it is the choice of the individual or Region. You may only use it once or twice in a year but boy you are grateful that you can!!!!!!!

Best Wishes to All

I don't remember seeing a block heater as an option anywhere when I was doing my build on Ford.com? I guess I missed it. I just placed my order yesterday; can this still be ordered?

Apparently it's standard here in Canada...........not sure of your situation in the US but you should give it a try.

Good Luck!!

I live in Northern Utah. It can get cold here, but I do park it in my garage.

I think I'll email the Ford salesperson I'm working and ask about it.
