I just hit 8k with my Ecoboost Maverick. I was checking the oil the other day and noticed this black coating on the motor mount and belt pulley. Has anyone else seen this? I wonder if its coming from my belt or the motor mount. I searched the forum before posting but did not find anything.

I took it to my Ford dealer today. I just stopped in with no appointment. They had a mechanic look at it and he said the pulley down below was pretty far out of alignment. Of course they could not get it in to repair until Tuesday. I will give an update then. needless to say this baby is getting parked in the garage until Tuesday. He did say it's possible the pulley was not tightened to correct spec at the factory.... Nice

if it's very far out of alignment one side/edge of the belt should show wear

Well just got back from the Ford dealer and now they say ........ wait for it ...........Normal wear.
They now say its the motor mount rubber "normal wear" causing the black rubber dust. My brother has a 23 XLT Ecoboost so next time I see him I will look at his truck.

Mine is a 22, EB XLT, 57K on the clock.

Black material was present around motor mount from day 1. Doesn't wipe away, when I clean the engine bay I have tried various cleaners and brushing without much if any success, I have always assumed it is a remnant of the manufacturing process for the isolator/mount. It hasn't changed in any way.

You described yours as a powder, assume it will wipe away?

I will try to clean it tomorrow. Up to this point I wiped it with my finger it comes off on my finger. It’s also on the pulley and wipes off. Sure feels like rubber residue.

Well, since the company is back to 🙈🙉🙊 maybe get all the loose material off and watch it, see if more accumulates?

Could be my dealer sprayed the engine down during PDC, it was very clean under the hood for just having come off the truck only a few hours earlier.

Do the pulleys appear out of alignment as that tech initially claimed?

I e had several of these show that. It’s pretty normal. Never caused an issue for me.
