...The wireless device plugs into the carplay USB port on the Maverick and uses bluetooth to connect to your phone's carplay feature...
Actually, it is not a "carplay" USB port; the USB ports work for AndroidAuto or car play.

And, at least on Android, wireless adapters use Wi-Fi, not bluetooth, to connect your phone to the infotainment system. Not sure about apple. Wi-Fi is a more robust connection than bluetooth.

I picked up a Carabc CarPlay adapter for cheap. It boots pretty quickly and I’ve on had a couple instances of having to “reboot” it. I think I paid $30.

You got me. Yes, the port supports Apple's Carplay and AndroidAuto, but let's not forget the OP specifically referenced CarPlay.
Yes, Wi-Fi is more robust than bluetooth, but one needs to pay for Wi-Fi connection in the vehicle. Bluetooth is free.

I got the motorola one on sale and it works fine.

I had a lot of frustration with intermittent connection on a couple different adapters. The problem wound up being my bluetooth earbuds - they were already connected to my phone for audio so the truck didn't want to hijack the connection and my android auto just wouldn't connect. It's been 100% reliable once I learned to put away or disconnect my earbuds before trying to use AA.
I wonder if my apple watch is keeping my FC RoHS wireless adapter from connecting to my iphone

No idea what that is, but my watch isn't considered audio device by my phone, so it doesn't interfere with the BT connection to my truck.

My first one was in my Titan, in direct sunlight up near the dash. Never an issue.
The one for the Mav hasn’t gotten to its first summer yet and it’s under the dash away from any light.

In 2023 I purchased a CarPlay wireless adapter through Yuveth Direct on Amazon. The Bluetooth connection displays as device SmartBox-46CA. It works well on my Maverick Lariat. It also performed well on my previous truck, a 2017 Honda Ridgeline. Occasionally, the Bluetooth connection from the Maverick to the iPhone 14 Pro Max would break, but it is a rare occurrence.
