Hi folks - picking up my XL this morning. I leased it for 3 years. Have driven a LOT of vehicles in my life and I'm impressed with the sweet spot that Ford seems to have hit here. I do a lot of furniture making, so one of the things I got this truck for is to transport lumber. Completely trashed the interior of the CRV I had for 10 years and it's not optimal to drive with 10 foot boards projecting from the windows :D

So, looking to protect the bed in the easiest way possible. Looking for something that works with rail protection too. Anyway, wondering if that is a Ford accessory or is there a 3rd party product that is just better. Since it's a lease I would really like to try an keep it under $500. TIA for any advice.

If you think you might not keep it when the lease is up you could the BedRug liner. It’s held in place with Velcro strips so it will protect the bed but can be removed later. I haven’t seen anything that covers the rails though.

Congratulations on the Ford Maverick. Hope it helps in day to day life along with carrying what lumber you may need.

If you leased one with a trailer hitch a used light trailer may be ideal and not destroying the bed, and can be used on your next vehicle. Unfortunately that may not be available, no place to park it when not in use, difficulty backing up a trailer, high theft area etc etc

I know of nothing besides the plastic already on the bed rail to protect it. You could price a spray in bed liner but it won't protect the top or bed rails it does protect the sides of the bed, the bed and tailgate. If price is an issue I would highly advise a rubber bed mat. It the day it also offered a mat on the tailgate so it protects stuff where it rides on along with it helps to keep things sliding around. The best is with the Ford pass points it may cover the majority of the price, if Ford offers it.

I didn't suggest the drop in bed liner because of the damage they cause underneath. If your planning on letting it go with the vehicle it also maybe an option and you can use Ford pass points as well. Just be warned of it's very difficult to keep things from sliding around. Also if wet, condensation, frost it is treacherous just to stand up in it to load or secure cargo.

Again congratulations on the Maverick

Really helpful, folks. I appreciate the advice and the quick replies. Hope you all have a great Spring. My needs are basic. I was heading in certain directions (there's a lot of great EV incentives in Vermont) but the basic vehicles are outrageously expensive. I will look forward to hybrid mileage, ApplePlay and remote starting - all big upgrades from what I had.

The plastic bed rails are replaceable, if you ever damage them. I used a rubber bed mat for the floor in my last F-150. I had it 22 years and never had any rust in the bed. I bought the same type of OEM mat for my Maverick. However, I don't live in the land o' salty roads all winter, so I can't comment on mats & liners causing rust.

Down here, engines and other mechanicals usually wear out on vehicles, long before rust ever sets in.

Mr. OzarkBeard - thank you very much. Good advice., I appreciate it. Just picked up the car and like it already, of course I couldn't find way to adjust right side mirror on the fly etc. Think daylight (tomorrow) will work better for all that . Very comfortable compared to what UI was driving and much quieter. Both good things.

I'd start with a bed mat; Ford OEM ($160) or Rough Country ($100) are very good choices. And you can always use them on top of a drop-in or other liner if you decide to get something else down the road. The mats will help keep your lumber from sliding around in the bed.

Sounds good. The purchase process is always way too much, now I can settle in and make some of these decisions without all that intensity. I’m really pleased to see what appears to be solid quality product. Thanks for weighing in. Nice people here.

You can contact real truck to get a quote on the classics Bedrug. You also look into tailgate pads- they make them for surfboards and

usually include a integrated strap which might help with the wood loads. Or the old school tailgate pads- towels and a tie down strap! The bed extender could be an option for you too instead of using the tailgate to rest the wood on.

We got the Rough Country bed mat and the Rough Country bed extender. Very pleased with both.
