I experienced a new gremlin last week. While backing out of my driveway, the backup camera worked normally, and then when I put the gear selector into drive and drove down my block the rear camera stayed on. It was a strange visual to see the street landscape moving behind me on the screen as I drove down my block. When I got to the stop sign at the end of the block I took a picture, you can see in the attached picture that the camera is on and my gear selector is in drive.
Right after I took the picture the screen went dark and then a warning message came on that said “camera is not available please contact your dealership”. I was just about to snap a picture of that screenshot but it disappeared before I could take it and then the screen went back to normal showing the radio. Everything has functioned normally since that happened last week. Anyone else have an experience like that ?

I doubt this is it, based on your description, but try checking if your Rear View Camera Delay is on. It's supposed to go off once you reach about 5 mph, but who knows.

Happened twice on my Maverick, usually either the Soft Reset (Power + Forward) works. Or cycle the vehicle off and on.

Haven't seen it in 3-4 months now.

The Ford center panel is glitchy on a good day. See if there is a software update available. I have Sync3 on the Escape and it just installed a pretty sizable update this past week.

Good to know it wasn’t just my unique experience. Thanks for the info.

I completely agree. This was just one of several different glitches I have experienced with the center panel unit. I’ll check for software updates - thanks !

This happened on my bronco once. It was when I was off roading though so I figured maybe the river was too deep and messed with the electronics or something but it did the exact same thing as you described

Mine did it while backing up the vehicle from the garage on a clear day. Glitch, imo.

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

A slightly different issue happened yesterday while backing into my driveway. I regularly back up to about 1 foot from my utility trailer in order to properly fit into my driveway. In this case the rear view camera video picture froze while I was backing up and I didn’t realize it at first. I almost backed into my trailer before I realized and hit the brakes. I immediately put the gear selector into park and the camera did not turn off. I sat there for a few minutes with the engine running and still in Park to see if the camera would shut off but it never did. I took a picture which show the camera on and the gear selector in Park. I will be addressing with the dealer on my next visit, which will be as soon as the ordered fuel tank arrives (Fuel Tank #3) which will be replaced to try and fix the fuel gauge that still doesn’t work after several attempts to fix it when it stopped working after the first fuel tank replacement due to fuel tank recall. Fun times.
