I prolly shoulda also said I have the habit of setting the parking brake in all parked situations, so for me, doesn't matter dial or not. It is "get in-shut door-start engine-release brake/press disable button-put in gear". Ya know, "Get your motor runnin; Head out on the highway; Lookin' for adventure; In whatever comes my way."
But, I must admit, I would prefer a lever and not a dial AND the ability to select some gears like I can with my 2003 Grand Cherokee which includes being able to disable the OD when I am doing no more that 45 for some distance.
Ya I'm still adjusting to the dial, but it also gives better clearance when reaching for the cup holder. [That's how I justify it to friends who make fun of the dial!]

I'm not a fan of ASS. Most of my stops result in engine shut down followed in 1/2 a second of restart. Absolutely no reason to stop the engine for 1/2 a second. I would prefer they took a page from GM here. My wife's Buick Encore switches the transmission to neutral at stops but leaves the engine running. Stepping off the brake re-engages drive and off you go. Probably some legal stuff there, but I would prefer it.
I was going to get an eliminator but the recent time change has seemingly disabled the ASS. I have yet (even on longer stops) to have it kick in. Not complaining though.

I don’t like having an engine idle, basically it’s trying to displace thousands of liters of air and fighting against a closed throttle (diesels do not have a throttle and idle a lot more efficiently).

Disappointed that my Mazda CX-3 does not have automatic stop/start, my old Mazda was a stick shift, it was easy to stop the engine when rolling to a stop – first gear with the clutch released, when traffic moved, push the clutch, hit the start button and we are rolling! Did 120K miles with no problems.

Didn't know they had that feature, when I'm driving and auto I always put it into neutral when stopped, even the Mav Hybrid - I know the hybrid does not have a torque converter but somthing is dragging and releases when you switch to 'N'.

For MANY MANY decades it was a thing to tune the carbs, too.... BILLIONS of miles on hybrids have shown that modern engineering has overcome a lot of the older problems.
Sure, on some things. Start ups may have gotten easier on engines but they are still not good for them. It takes time to get the oil flowing. Idling is also not kind on vehicles. Modern or not, the same reasons exist why those issues are still true.
