Some systems use cameras and some systems use radar. Each has pluses and minuses depending what you're trying to do.

I don't see how these systems couldn't create a false sense of security and encourage lazy and distracted driving. Coupled with these unreliable systems, it begs the question as to whether or not these systems are creating more accidents than they prevent.
They might in some but sure don't seem to in me. My Escape has a ton of electric safety sensor features but I never really miss them when I hop in my Vette that has none.
I WILL admit to really liking rear sensors, they definitely make it way easier to account for people speeding through parking lots when backing out and surrounded by land yachts that block your view.

My wife had a 2018 Rogue that the system failed to prevent a rear end collision. The position of the auto manufactures is no matter what safety devices are installed, the responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicles is the drivers.

It's a good system to have and I am sure it will get better as time goes by but it doesn't replace an attentive driver.
The Nissan AEB system, much like their adaptive cruise, is butt.

Main reason I almost always back into a parking spot, unless I need to load the trunk or bed. People are just oblivious to what is going on around them in a parking lot. The lot racers rate just below the ones that drive across spaces. I will occasionally pull through one. People that cut across spaces to save time getting to the exit are just dangerous and discourteous.

On my Ranger I had it warn once when I was switched lanes. I guess it thought I got too close to the vehicle in front of me as I went around it. I didn't even realize it was a feature my truck had. That is my only experience with it.

On a related note everyone should practice getting into the settings to deactivate it just incase you are ever in a situation where it might be a better choice to drive though a barrier. I would hate to be stuck immobilized during a riot or something.

Depending on how it is implemented, AEB can help prevent a collision, but t the big thing is that when a collision occurs, it engages and you do not go as far into the next lane.

mad someone who was #3 in a 14 car collision (darn that I75/85) I stopped in plenty of time (ok within 3 inches of a collision only to be rear ended and driven into the car in front of me. So even though I stopped in time #4 did not nor apparently 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 or 14.
This is yet another reason ATL driving suxxors

Yes, rear parking sensors, blind spot and emergency braking are nice. The rest such as lane-keeping/centering, hill assist, and even adaptive cruise are annoying to me. But, that's just me.

I did a search for automatic emergency braking, and came across this post. Has anybody had the AEB activated and save their Maverick yet.

I've heard some people claim they were going to test theirs by making a giant cardboard wall and then driving at it full speed to see what happens. Don't know if I believe them. Haven't heard or seen any videos or photos. Haha. I would be scared to do it, even knowing it was just a thin cardboard wall.
