I would add to the start as to why more used?

More micro-draw expected from more running computers while going to and during sleep time.
And for an intermittent badly behaved computer - better recovery potential.
Though obviously not always.

To me the article explains the reasons for having a specific AGM charger/maintainer.
I agree everything with your saying , one other reason for the AGM is the location of the battery, being under the back seat. Harder to maintain the battery.
