Apple CarPlay - Avoid freeway and toll roads

I have the Avoid freeway and toll roads turned off but it seems like it still will direct me away from the freeway?

Can't you use Waze ?? I love it and the police notifications are always accurate if you tend to speed sometimes.

Are you using Apple maps? Google has a setting for "prefer fuel-efficient routes" that is separate from avoid highways and tolls. Not sure if Apple has the same thing.

You can even tell google maps what type of vehicle you drive, Electric, Hybrid, ICE. It will then select the most fuel efficient route, based on that.

Like the hybrid saving mode with Android Auto. But also available if using Google maps on an iPhone.

I had no idea that was an option. I use Apple Maps because its easy and has never let me down.

You can tell google maps that you want to take a direct route, to ignore alternatives and like others have stated, to avoid toll roads.

Might be easy for an iphone user, but IMO, they are not very accurate. My county 911 renamed a lot of county roads a few years back. My road name and number changed. Google maps updated their maps in less than two weeks. I fought with apple for two f-n years to get it corrected. Had to get people with i phones contact apple about the incorrect maps, because there was no way I could find that allowed a non-apple product user to get in touch with them. And at considerable trouble, too. Friends had to actually submit pictures of my house, mailbox and street sign.

Even if I owned an apple product, I would never use their out-of-date maps. I do not trust them.

Speed Traps along your route can be enabled in Google Maps as well. It also shows how many crowd-sourced reports there have been. Probably a feature they copied from Waze, after they bought Waze.
