Apple car play

What is the best way ,or port,to connect iphone to for car play?what all can it do.if there is a write up somewhere on it lead me to it and would appreciate it.i know the basics but seems to be a lot more it can do that I don’t know about.yep,the old man strikes again

I have USB-C to lightning (Apple OEM) cable and mine connects instantly and no interruptions. Though as we've learned, there's a glaring difference between the SYNC-3 and non_SYNC interfaces.

I found this coiled usb cable on Amazon. I like it because it allows me to set up maps or music and then it stays out of the way.

I have been told stay with the cord. Generic corded have a problem I purchased a new Apple cord and things improved. You can look on the Apple App page and find what works with Apple play. I was dissatisfied with selection.

You can search here for discussions on wireless Carplay adapters. iPhone lightning connectors don't hold up well. More expensive wireless Carplay adapters aren't necessarily better. Get yourself a couple of USB-A downwards right angle adapters and you can route the wireless adapter's cable underneath the console and then use some strong Velcro to attach the adapter under the console and out of the way. I suggest you use electrical tape or shrink tubing over the connector joints so that isn't an issue.

I never have to take my iPhone 13 Pro out of my pocket and it connects automatically once you set up the connection the first time.

I have had good luck with CarPlay2Air ($90ish) but I have the Sync3 Audio so it may be a different story without it.

After playing with car play awhile it seems to be alot better than not having it.my daughter gave me a coiled cord she has and it seems to be the way to go.had to give it back thoughthanks from the old man

It has both the USB and USB-C cables. I use the USB-C cable for it, then I still have the USB for a thumb drive or such.
Had an iPhoneXR, when in my left pocket, sometimes did not connect unless it was in my right pocket or placed in the console. Have sinced upgraded to the iPhone13 and have no issues with connections at all with phone in my left pocket.

My 13 max does the same with USB C, maybe need to go back to standard USB.
