I don't know where else to ask. I was trying to eliminate apps on my 2024 Moto Power and I did something stupid. I'm also 74 yo. Currently my Maverick switches back and forth with home screen and Android Google maps. My cell has a message that it is searching for android auto...it also gets hot from running. Any idea would be appreciated.

My 1st guess is your USB cable. (I don't have a 2nd guess.)

I had difficulties with Android Auto and USB cables with both our cars, including "sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't." Sometimes I got it to work again by unplugging the USB-C connector and plugging it in again upside-down.

Finally I got fed up with cables and put Android Auto wireless adapters in both vehicles. They're kind of a pain to install; if you have grandchildren you might ask them to help.

LOL, when I plug in my cable it works. It also worked before I tried to "improve" my battery useage.

If I'm understanding correctly, it sounds like you might have uninstalled the Android Auto app. On your phone, go the the Play store and search for Android Auto. Scroll down a little to get past the ads / sponsored results, and you'll see the official Google Android Auto app. If it is in fact not installed, reinstall it, start the app on your phone, then plug it into your Maverick's USB and see if that fixes the problem.

It's also possible that in trying to improve battery life you changed a permission Android Auto needs in order to run in the background. Which one I have no idea.

I believe that is what I did. Don't know how to find it. I also see I have two apps called Android and two apps like android separate... 👍

If all else fails you can do a factory reset which brings it back to the setup when you first purchased it. You'd need to reset up your account and download your apps again. It'd be a pain, but it may ultimately be easier than your current path

Do you mean my cell or the truck? I would consider that a bit drastic. But your probably right.

He means your cell phone. I don't remember if there's a box that needs to be checked on your infotainment system to turn on Android Auto, I seem to remember once my phone was linked and plugged in via USB that Android Auto just worked. But either way, unless you've done something to your truck using Forscan you won't need to factory reset the truck.

On your phone, if you swipe down twice you'll bring up the quick full settings menu, click on the gear looking wheel to go into Settings and then do a search for Android Auto. If it's installed it will show up, there will be multiple listings for it but you want to start with the one under Apps that has the blue and white icon. Click on it and see if it needs to be updated, or like sp1966 said, scroll down to check the permissions to make sure it's still allowed to run in the background. After that you can scroll back up to the top and click on Additional settings in the app and scroll through those options to see if something is unchecked / turned off.

The help you need should be done in person. It is very hard to give out suggestions to such a complicated issue. Find a grand kid (if you have any) or go to your local starbucks and offer to buy a person in line their beverage of choice if they help you. Either way, you win. I'm betting its going to be an uninstall off your phone and reinstall.

Open Settings, Apps, Andriod Auto

You should see all the settings for the app there. You can Force it to stop. Set it to connect Automatically in additional settings, check the permissions, make sure it is enabled. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
