I heard in a podcast with a Ford rep that they were both 3.81 but after your post and researching I guess not.

Here's my guess...

The FX4 package is $800. *MOST* of that $800 is in the upgraded wheels/tires, sreen upgrade, skid plate, etc. The upgraded cooling fan and radiator is not an expensive cost over the factory basics.

The 4K Tow Package is $745 and similar in that *MOST* of that is in a few parts. The tires are just different (all season vs all terrain, for towing on road, but you're right these are the same tires listed without 4k tow, which means it's not an upgrade, just noticing the difference between packages) and not a price difference, nor is the hitch. I'm guessing the radiator and fan is even better here, along with the cost being tucked into the brake controller & oil cooler.

When it boils down to it, it's like most things in life. You're mostly paying for a few things, and a few others (like you said -marketing) are thrown in to make it seem even better. The ones "thrown in" feel like the ones that are the overlap and thus aren't really impactful in the cost world and wouldn't change dramatically if there was an adjustment.
