I just picked up my Lariat FX4 three days ago and have already performed accessory number one: bug guard. I did this to my first one but unlike the first time, I installed it right away. I waited half a year after the fact on the first since I wasn't sure how it was gonna look. Since I liked it, I definitely had to do it for the second one. It totally transforms the look of the front. Makes it look more muscular. Not a bad price either. $79 plus shipping. I'd highly recommend it, plus it serves a purpose. Mines been sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Any tips?
Add adhesive to parts that are not covered where debris can get in. If you've ever seen these things after they are removed, it's not pretty.

This is just an example, but was taken after someone removed theirs after 6 months. Granted, washing regularly should in theory flush some out and you can remove any plastic pieces and find dirt underneath, but most of these are not fully sealed and this is what happens.

I have the AVS style one that is not flush, similar to the EGR one, and I'm considering removing it for a clear protective film instead because even on those ones the debris will just build up at the bottom on the very corners (which might actually be worse).

I thought the hood was aluminum, so it should not rust???

I think Montana has the right idea with the clear protective film. I just wonder how noticable the edges would be if you only used it across the leading edge. I suppose you could cover the whole hood. 😬

Love my original doscontinued Aeroskin 2. Deflects bugs and rocks keeping them off the windshield.
They discontinued it, possibly due to hood shake, which was easily fixed.

I had one of the non-3M type that mount under the hood and hover above it on my Sport Trac for over 10 years. The paint underneath was pretty much ruined from it vibrating against the hood while driving.

is this a serious question?
Unfortunately, not all of us are as insightful as you are. I wish I were, but life is not always fair 😢

Tried for months to find this bug deflector with no luck.... discontinued. Was looking for a bug deflector to keep bug off the windshield...never found one. Bought another like the OP's...but decided to not install after seeing the damage from leaves, trash, bug trapped under my Honda Element bug deflector....had to have paint repaired after 10 years of catching junk underneath the bug guard....Have driven x-country 2 times in Maverick and had zero gravel bug damage to the front of hood.

Ended up using 3M wrap on Maverick to cover the first 6 inches of hood and all of front bumper area. 3M wrap is about $20 for 20 feet to do complete wrap of front where sand and bugs damage paint. Can't see the 3M wrap unless you look ready close.

@Gullzway I like the discontinued deflector with the bump that you installed. You mentioned it's easy to fix the hood shake. Can you explain if you experienced the shake and If so, how did you fix it? I'm wondering if I can find one somewhere.

@Gullzway thank you for the response and the link. I'm going to hunt for the deflector you have. I'm hopeful I can get one.
