This road is about 20 miles down into the Grand Canyon. I believe it is the only place where you can do this in the G.C. The first 12-15 miles were pretty good; standard washboarding, some ruts but very doable. The last few miles however, were pretty tough. Literally driving thru creek beds and across washes. Also frequent spots of deep soft sand. You need a permit from the Hualapai tribal office to both drive and camp. A late season monsoon had hit the road hard the previous week but they keep it in good shape. They literally groom a run-off channel parallel to the road to the water contained. It is the primary take-out point for raft trips thru the Grand Canyon. I had aired down on the way in, so used my compressor to air up once out the next day, They advise to attach the negative to the ground, not the neg post of the battery. I bought a Viair digital 12v Tire Inflator and was very happy with ease of use. It quickly topped off the tires all the way around. My Maverick handled all this in stride and it was a great a drive. Campground is primitive and first come, first served.

I had originally planned to drive to the Toroweap Overlook in the Arizona Strip, a much longer and grueling off road drive, but had to cancel due to incoming Tropical Storm Rachel. I had bought Falken Wildpeak 235/65R17s 108H XL tires. I am not a big car/truck guy, but had read that these have a reinforced sidewall ( the "XL" part), good for airing down and driving off road on slick rock. I plan to tackle Toroweap next time. :)

I didn’t see anything in the pictures that would challenge our Tremors.
I’ve got a friend up here.
Going to her house I’m in trail walk mode and in several spots one wheel is off the ground.
Another spot in off road mode I lock the rear differential.
These Tremor's are so much fun, so many toyz.
Mine turns those wheels steady on my 12-14 % climb to my cabin with ease.

It’s really cool on steep sections when the gravel gives way and a wheel slips, the other three dig in and, ‘Get~er~Done’

Don't have a Tremor, but love to hear how much you guys enjoy yours. Great little truck!
If it’ll make you feel better my Tremor eats gas more than a standard EB
My average is 24 mpg

I had no bad feelings about the Maverick Tremor. I thought my post was celebrating that truck.

Not good at big words but I was trying to be, ‘Facetious’

I rib the Hybrid guys about their mpg’s all the time. I’m just a bit, twisted.
If not a bit jealous.

My neighbor told me about this road when I told him about our planned Route 66 trip through AZ. He did it in his F150. Alas, I only have FWD and would not dare attempt this adventure. We did drive on to Oatman from Kingman and that was paved but a little challenging in spots. Not for you Tremor Dudes. You’d laugh at those little challenges. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures. I get it. It must have been great. We are headed up to the South Rim again on Monday before winter sets in but on 100% paved roads.

Mike,
After reading your post☝🏻and watching the video below. 👇
I'm encouraged to attempt this drive with my FWD Maverick.
Maybe next year I'll replace my OEM Continentals with a tire that has a little more bite and go for it then.

All good. Thanks for the clarification. I look forward to your posts and how they illustrate how much you love your Tremor.

I didn't see anything that would challenge a Prius. It's great that there are maintained roads to wonderful camping areas like this.

Pictures rarely tell the real story, I have my doubts a Prius would have avoided getting stuck in that river muck from experience. Not saying it was necessarily super hard, but still.
