You can manually turn them back on with the stalk. I have done it when looking for a driveway at someone's house on back roads. Gravel drives I can spot easy but a friend has an asphalt drive that is hard to see and deep ditch on each side. Very narrow driveway also.
EDIT: You can turn auto high beans off in the menus. Then you are in complete control when it is high or low.
yeah, i turned off the auto highs. i did not like that.

Yep. I'm so used to it auto-ons that after a vehicle has been in the shop or somewhere where someone had the turned the knob to Off that I'd be the idiot driving without headlights til I noticed. That's why the default to auto-on is desirable to me. Protects me and has no downsides whatsoever.
I understand you like it and you have what you want. I am simply saying that like my other cars, I can put them knob once in auto headlight mode and never touch it again. You are getting what YOU want. I am not. So not sure why anyone has an issue. Imagine for a minute the opposite. Not just you, I mean all the other people that have posted how much they like not having to turn them on. Imagine you want something and Ford doesn't give the option. Imagine the Maverick had auto headlights on but you had turn the knob to the Auto headlight setting every single time you start the car.

Also imagine you want you AC on on all the time 7/24, even when freezing or windows down because you want to burn more gas but you had go to the screen and turn it on it on every single time you start the car. It does not remember your choice.

Just try to imagine that for a minute.

No, not talking about auto high beams, those went off the first day. I mean the headlights come on the instant you turn the car on. Even if battery low or whatever, it turns them on if you are in a garage or shade. It's not a big ask to have the headlight switch stay where the owner wants it. If you put it in auto mode you can drive it for 20 years and never touch it. But I don't want the headlights on all the time. There are TSBs about battery failures with all the auto updating and automatic systems that are constantly running and polling. I simply want the choice to not have it in auto headlights, not big brother telling me that I am too lazy or dumb to turn on the headlights myself.

Sounding like thru many posts - the 25/26MY changes the behavior.
Ford probably thought they were reducing troubleshooting calls - doesn't sound like it.

Not only can the HVAC system which was turned off on last drive turn itself back on (since now onscreen right!) during next startup - the AC button will actually be pressed/lit.

Whereas prior-25MY the HVAC won't turn back on.
When HVAC actually turned on - The AC button being pressed seems a fluke if it happens.
But the AC can still be enabled without the button being pressed.

Besides the AC button pressed fluke I've seen a few times - more often I have the non-selected vent location fluke. Non-Dual climate control, combined only.
I do NOT use Auto mode on any regular basis - infrequently on long drives.
So normally I get fan to down 1, vent was already on upper only, temp was whatever, usually LO at this season so I get outside air.
Turn HVAC off before turning truck off. Notice my ending SOC%.
Next startup, turn HVAC on - and the vent selector has none selected. But the low fan, confirmed by going higher - is indeed on defrost. May be on foot too.
Push the upper vent selector, increase fan.
Again - non-dual climate control.
Yes, mine is 25 and consistent. It is even more aggravating in the new cars because there are no knobs or physical controls. It is a tiny light on the screen and it is hard to see with my sunglasses to begin with. I have begun to turn the fan off every time I park at night but I don't understand the all of these extra steps for supposed convenience that I have to remember to turn the fan off, then turn it on in the morning for fresh air. I know many like AC on all the time, but I don't. I live in a mild climate and like having the windows open and I bought a smaller Maverick for size and efficiency to be defeated with driving around all the time with AC on regardless of temperature.

I see you have a 2025 Maverick.
What trim level XL, XLT or Lariat?

Well good for you. I am really happy for you, but that is not the case for me. My AC comes on all the time and I don't want auto headlights all the time. I am blessed with to be able to turn the headlights when I need them. Thank you for your contribution!

Never said this was not a good feature. I 100% understand how both systems work... Was just asking the OP to clarify his original post.
I already turned off auto headlights, since day one. I want my headlights on/off switch to work like it does on my 5 other cars. If you put it in AUTO, it stays in Auto. If you put it in OFF, it stays in OFF. It is as simple as that. If you want AUTO headlights on all the time, you get that but just leaving it in AUTO but it reverts to AUTO for me every time the car wakes up and in the newer cars, the same with AC, it reverts to AC on all the time.

so, the question here would be if I had the HVAC just blowing air into the cabin, not in defrost/defog mode, will the AC automatically turn on? I don't think I've seen this but I also don't tend to use the HVAC unless it's really cold or really hot outside.
I am getting cold air because I had the AC for example to 72 when it was really hot the day before but now it's 74 outside and want to drive around with windows open, it fires up the AC every time until I realize it. Now I just turn it off every morning but it gets old.

XLT FX4...I wonder now if the XL without the luxury package might not do that. If I would've known, I wouldn't have gotten the package. I didn't want luxury package, it was mandatory to get FX4 Package which I did want.

On the 2025 XL or XLT are your DRL's, daylight running lights the headlights or do you have specific LEDs for that function?
Example my 2023 XLT uses the headlights as DRL's. That is a switchable on-off function.

If your truck is in the garage and you start it up. I don't think there's any way to avoid your headlights from coming on until the sensor on top of the dash detects light.

I don't know if that can be altered with FORScan.

Good question! No, I turned the DRT off the first day too hoping it would affect the weird behavior. I park in the car port or shade so for me they come on all the time when I start the car. I have 5 other cars in my household that have auto headlights but they stay where you set them. It has never been an issue.

If you start the truck and put the headlight switch on the "off" position, the headlights will not come on, regardless of ambient light level. Sounds like OP doesn't want to have to turn the switch "off" every time they start the truck.

And yes, that behavior can be altered in Forscan, but it might be more fun to complain about it. ;)

Maybe OP hasn't heard of FORScan?
Or doesn't want to screw around with it.
I know of FORScan but I don't have a laptop number one and I don't want to end up screwing something up.

My truck is in the garage. I go through the same thing every day.

Unless it's dark out, they turn off the moment I roll outside.

I don't think the headlight thing is going to go away as a matter of fact, I think it's going to become more pervasive.
