Went out to garage, 7 day old, 230 miles. Pushed start button, looked like normal, but could not turn the gear shift out of park. Noticed a little red battery light in upper left of the screen.

Couldn't get it to go. Went inside for a minute. Called my salesman, back outside and tried again, everything was back to 'normal' functioning. Salesman asked me to check the Fordpass app which said everything ok.

I have read articles here about the 12 volt battery not getting charged up can cause problems, but don't recall symptoms mentioned. Don't believe I drove it yesterday at all, and the day before only 4 short (1/2 mile) trips all electric only.

Does the 12 volt system get any charging when you run electric only, or does it get charged along with the drive battery?

TIA for any thoughts.

Also a relatively new owner. It happened to me twice. I think it's just a blip. I think I just turned the truck off and back on, and everything was fine.

Is it possible your foot was not on the brake and you were actually only in Accessory mode?

No, foot definitely on the brake. Read some other threads about being on a slope possibly causing the locking dogs in the transmission, also having the steering wheel locked. It may be possible that I was backed into my garage that has a step up and the rear wheels may have been pressed up against that step.

What isnt clear is the little red battery icon in the upper left.

Just going to see how it goes. Thanks for the reply.

I see the red battery when my truck is in accessory mode. Maybe it’s a problem with the brake sensor assuming it’s still a switch that closes circuit when the pedal arm moves slightly like in the good old days. Maybe you were pushing on the brake but the computer was not seeing it.

Welcome to the world of the Maverick Hybrid. Most Short trips and not much driving = low 12v battery. You might want to consider getting a battery maintainer to keep it from going flat. To keep this thing going you need to drive 30-60 minutes 4-6 days a week. This usually doesn't happen unless you are getting "deep sleep" notices in Fordpass. Best yet, unless you really need Fordpass dump the app, and turn off it's in vehicle stuff (see owners manual).

The 12v battery is charged from the high voltage battery, not the directly from the gas engine. If the high voltage battery is in a low charge state it will not charge the 12v system very well. The system will not let the high voltage battery get too low, the ICE will kick in to keep it between 40-80% charge.

Truly the strangest hybrid I've ever owned, the rest never had stuff like this.

This is concerning for a 24 model year with late manufacture date. This could indicate all issues found in previuos years have not been addressed.

Ford's official recommendation has always been, if you get the deep sleep message, drive the truck more. Apparently an hour and a half a day still isn't enough to recharge the battery, as some people have experienced.

Best in-depth explanation of why these issues are occurring and info on option three can be found here.

Basically, the trucks were designed to have an AGM battery, but Ford switched it to a flooded battery without changing the proper BMS settings. The stock battery can barely properly operate the truck if it's operating to the specs and every time the truck is driven, the battery will slowly be damaged. Replacing it with a more capable flooded battery will allow it to be damaged more before it starts to effect the batteries performance but doesn't correct the underlying issue.

From everything I've seen on the forums, once your battery is damaged to the point issues start occurring, you basically have three options to more permanently solve the issue.

1. Take your truck back to the dealership every time the battery dies until they eventually get tired of it and replace it under warranty. Expect it to take three to ten visits and you may have to do it multiple times as the replacement battery becomes damaged as well.

2. Hook it up to a battery tender every time it's going to be parked more than a day or two. Minimum of once a week.

3. Bite the bullet and replace the battery with the one the truck and battery management system was designed for.

Hi, Mary here, new member, new owner of used 22 Maverick Hybrid but Long time Loyal Ford owner starting in 1974 with my 66 Mustang (wish 17yr old me knew what i had when i had it) followed by assorted F250,Rangers, Broncos F150s Ford only Trucks. My newly retired 21 yr old F150 was going strong but rusting out, lost the gas tank and decided not to put any more money into her. Sooo hated to let her go!! So with some nervousness i bought 2 yr 44k miles Maverick Hybrid 29 days ago and already have had 2 new batteries installed. I thought all the bugs would of been taken care of. The Ford dealership insists everything tests fine and be on your way. Last night i said ok, see you in 2 weeks!! Can someone please in small words so they understand what i am saying tell me what to tell them. I tried to ask them to google Dead maverick batteries and see what comes up! Both times it was bricked completely dead i had only let it sit 1 day....1 day!! my old truck could set 2 weeks and fire right up. I make a point of never driving less than 10miles 30min but i guess i need to drive longer. Every Day??! Retired and don't need to go anywhere every day. Really wish i could get my old truck back spend a grand for a new gas tank. I don't have the tech skills to jump it or fiddle with stuff but have several knowledgeable people that agree, it isn't the battery, something is draining the battery. I really cant keep a truck that needs to be driven and monitored so closely. Thanks i have enjoyed reading the posts listed here and yes i have read the dead battery ones. Hate to say it but i Should of listened to my Brother and bought a Toyota. Wishing i had my old F150 back at this point!

Being it's a 2022, have they checked the main 300A fuse for cracks (SSM 51598) and replaced the wiring harness (TSB 22-2340)? If not, I'd start there. Give them those exact reference numbers and even the slowest tech should be able to find the correct procedures with mininal effort.

Meh. My original battery is two years old, even with deep sleep being the norm for the better part of those two years, it's not showing signs of dying. I do use a battery maintainer on it, a few times during the winter, but haven't needed it in summer. I'm not buying a new battery until the stock one is dead, I hoping that will be the next owners problem. Once the warranty is up, this thing is gone.

2024 Hybrid here, 2k miles. This has happened to me twice now in the past month. Get in, turn the key, truck starts normal, I go to put the truck in drive but the knob won't budge. I look at the dash and I see the check engine and battery light are on. I turn the truck off, pull the key out, put the key back in and start the truck, and it goes into drive fine and everything is normal.
Seems like just a "blip", but certainly comes with a little anxiety especially the fact it has happened more than once now.
