So at 50k I was able to run my 2.0 ecoboost to 0 percent oil life with recommendations from blackstone.

This timeline just so happened to be the Pete time to test worst case scenario for me. First I hauled a trailer slightly over 4k down and back to Texas never shutting it off down or back. 23 hours each way.

I drove this in incredibly dusty off road conditions for 7 days off roading in the Texas hill country. Made it back to Michigan in the very cold snap. So this got many many cold starts in the single digits. Now I remote start and it ran for at least 15 min each day before I went out to leave. I rarely shut it off when stopping anywhere when it cold. So this has seen a hard tow, lots of idling, lots of local around town shorter trips, and some e30 time action for fun.

Seems everything is a ok.

Remember all oil is not the same. Some say amsoil is all marketing and cost too much. But many on here know how I treat mine and it seems to work well past the dreaded olm mileage.

Unlike my truck, the viscosity better, within a recognized range. The 13k miles sample was 8. The 50k miles 9.1.

Looks great Levi. Your kinematic viscosity is exceptional for a long OCI. Were you using the same oil at the 13K change? From the add-pack mineral levels it appears you were.

What oil have you been running? You might want to switch to something with a higher virgin kinematic viscosity.

I was indeed running the same oil.

Motorcraft 5-30 blend. But now running Motorcraft full synthetic 5-30.

Did oil change at ~1300 miles since new, put in blend, with intents to run that to 3k, cheaper. Next chsnge was at 4k miles, blend again. In both of blend runs, low viscosity and shearing. Last change went to 5-30 full synthetic, Motorcraft. Will do 1500 miles, pull another sample, see what this MC synthetic will do. MC full synthetic oil is ConocoPhillips made, just repackaged, labeled in MC bottles.

Snox801,
I didn't want to assume the last oil analysis they did at 13K was in fact the last oil change.
I didn't see that strictly said or any miles given for this OLM range.

So was it actually almost 38K on this oil, or what was the OLM mileage then?

Since it wasn't time based for 1 yr, just curious how close you got to 10K with good examples of some extreme use idling and towing.

Great example.

Do you recall if the OLM estimates were going for like 1 year or 10K miles before the towing or winter?

No last oil change was not 13k that was the last time I sent a sample. This one I specifically went to zero on the oil monitor. It was roughly 8k miles in about two months time. The report said go another 2k which would put me at 10k between changes

Is there a reason that you are concerned about the viscosity, when your oil reports show normal wear metals?

Anytime I see fuel dilution and I see low viscosity, I am confident they are related- in fact one is the cause and the other is the symptom. then to wind that back, if it's a direct injected engine I'd probably make sure to run at least 15 min continuously before the oil change to ensure that dilution from normal startup is burned off.

I'm not as confident as you Colin. My reports show only trace fuel as Levi's does and I've had the same low (7.5) 100 degree cSt kinematic viscosity as CajunMick after a <5K OCI. I have a DI Duratec 20 that also shows trace fuel and is always in the normal kinematic viscosity range after an 8K OCI. Based on those results, I can't come to a logical conclusion as to what the relationship is between fuel % and low viscosity, at least not with Blackstone results.

I always run an engine to operating temperature before an oil change. I'm currently running Pennzoil Platinum which has a relatively low virgin kinematic viscosity and will move to something closer to an 11 rating for my next oil change.

My wear metals are completely normal, as are CajunMick's from the analysis he has shared.

you can have issues with the hpfp, injectors, worn piston rings, a lot of stuff can increase the % fuel dilution and dilution definitely hurts viscosity until it's burned off.

but usually, especially on lower mileage ecoboost owners who do not disable autostop, dilution and low viscosity are caused by short drives and exacerbated by a short drive before the oil change. I'd suspect that issue for anyone until specifically ruled out, not just Mick.

I'm aware of the numerous sources of fuel dilution. There is no real evidence of wear or fuel dilution in either of my DI engines so, again, I can't show a solid relationship between fuel dilution and viscosity. I can "suspect" that fuel dilution is present and is affecting viscosity simply because it is prevalent with low mileage Ecoboost 2.0s.

My Maverick has been through the same average driving habits as my 150K-mile Duratec 20 and I've had auto start/stop disabled in Forscan since the first week I owned it. Hopefully as I rack up the miles (only 7800 now), the reduction in viscosity through an OCI will decrease.
